This hole in the wall, locally owned Vietnamese restaurant is exactly what I was looking for when I'm craving some homemade feel good food. Dont let its divey bar feel turn you away. Mama Hoang makes you feel like you are one of her kids and she just wants to feed you food food.
I went with a big group and this place is excellent for that. The tables can easily be put together to accommodate big parties. the pool tables are a bonus fun perk!
Now on to the food. Going in a big group gives me the benefit of getting to try everyone's dish. Yes, i don't know why my friends still put up with me because not only I eat their food, I have to take a photo of it before they get to eat it :D For drinks I had the milk drip coffee, strong and kickin' exactly want I want in a Vietnamese coffee. At the end of my meal, I got a OJ. I was surprised it was freshly squeezed! Appetizers we ordered a few items to try (number 1, 2, 3). The crispy egg rolls and spring rolls is exactly want you look for, they don't skimp on fillings. The chicken wings I would say is my favorite. We tried both the sauced and dry, they came out fresh and out, crispy and juicy inside. I ate 5 of each just myself (don't judge me!) My dish was the number 35: steak, meatball, and tripe pho. Now that may seem simple to you, but it's a good baseline for me to judge. Two reasons why I gave it a thumbs up. First, the broth is one of the best I've had, exactly what I would want o during a hangover or a sick day. Second, the meatballs are legit! I'll post the other foods that my friend had so you can look for yourself.
All in all,...
Read morethe food here is 100% authentic! For many ppl I'm sure that this is the placewould expect to find good food the least. But please not let the first impression when you step into the place fools you. Even I have read all good comments about this place but I didn't have a good impression when I first stepped into the place. Typical billiard store as many places in Vietnam and you would never expect good food from such places. But I was totally wrong. OMG, their food is a bomb for me. I had the Bun mang vit ( duck noodles with bamboo shoots) and my partner had two different types of banh mi: grilled pork ( thit nuong) and a mix of cold cuts ( banh mi thit). yeah he wanted the second one since the first one was extremely amazing). My first spoon of the duck soup was "OMG, this is exactly what I had in Saigon" the ginger fish sauce is a must for this fish and this place made iy just right. Perfectly ginger fish sauce for the dish. The moment you dip the duck meat or the salad in the sauce and then put it in your mouth. I felt like I was in heaven. I definitely will come back her to try the bun bo hue and com suon ( broken rice). We did play the billiard there also after eating. We wanted the food sit down a bit before being able yo do something else. it's only 9$ per hour for the game. I was completely satisfied with the food and...
Read moreWe took my brother-in-law (my wife's oldest brother) to lunch for his birthday, and he suggested this place. It was the first time we had been there, but my brother-in-law had been there before - it is located about 4 blocks from his house. The variety of menu choices were representative of the Vietnamese cuisine, rice dishes with or without broth, noodle dishes with or without broth, fried rice (Vietnamese style), Vietnamese bun sandwiches - all served with fresh bean sprouts, onions, basil sprigs, and sliced jalapenos. All similar to what we have had from other Pho
places. As an appetizer we shared fresh spring rolls with a very yummy sauce that had a little spice to it. I had the Ox tails with noodles and both my wife and brother in-law had beef with noodles. The appetizer and entrees were very tasty and fulfilling. Since both my wife and myself have eaten at several Pho places, we both had a history tasting good Pho - we both decided that Billiard Hoang's Pho dishes rated in the top 5 of the best Pho restaurants that we've experienced. The really good Pho
restaurants are the places where a representative population of Vietnamese live close by... The only drawback is that Billiard Hoang's restaurant is about 20 miles from my wife and I live, that means we'll have to visit my brother-in-law more often... which is NOT a... Read more
