A mainstay in Columbia City with regular weekend lines around the block, this bakery offers well-executed classics plus some creative twists and flavor combinations. I visited on a weekday to avoid the crowds and that's what I'd recommend! I started with an Alaska breakfast sandwich and a chorizo hand pie, both tasty! The Alaska is served on a very unique sourdough biscuit—somewhere between a biscuit and an English muffin, maybe? It has a nice texture. You absolutely can't miss their seasonal Danish. When I visited, it was plum and cream cheese. The sweet plum, creamy cheese, and flaky crust are an outstanding combo. Another standout is the savory bread pudding. I'm not sure if this is a regular offering, but if not, it absolutely should be. The texture is amazing, especially warmed up, with gooey cheese and crispy bits of bacon. Other favorites for me are the mini fruit pie (or the whole fruit pie, if you're serving a crowd), the coffee cake, and any of their focaccia slices.

Passed by this place on a Saturday. There was a good queue of people outside waiting to place their orders. It took about 10 minutes or so to get the order in and about another 5 or so minutes to get the order. Looked like there was a good selection of items. Ordered a curry potato and cauliflower hand pie. It was very warm on the outside and a little cool on the inside. The dough was very flaky and a little oily. It was very filled which was nice. I wish I had a little bit of salt to bring out more of the curry flavor. Also ordered a couple of blondies. Liked it because it was a nice big cookie shaped like a brownie. Would be good with some vanilla sauce.

I am new to this neighborhood and I'm proud and glad this is our bakery! I just got a whole wheat sourdough and a pistachio snail pastry that is mind-blowing good I'm glad that the pastry wasn't that big else it would be sinful! People commented that they were forced to buy two of the same items and I was concerned at first for someone with a small household but I'm glad that this wasn't the case I was there today :) Staff was so polite and helpful and gave me a recommendation for a loaf with my requirements. Let's support small local businesses! (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤

I was so excited to try this place, it’s been on my list to visit for a while. Needless to say I will never be going back. As I walked in I hear a gentleman behind the counter say “if you’re getting pastries or bread I can help you over here” I was not I was just getting a coffee so I walked up to the register and the lady working looks at me crazy and says the line starts over there and I said oh I’m just getting a coffee, still she says the line starts over there. As I look at the empty line I chuckle, walk around the island thing and place my order for coffee. As I’m walking around the lady at the register turns to her coworker and starts laughing at me, not a great look on you guys. I place my order then my partner goes next. His comes out first he got a dirty chai and I’m waiting for mine. The lady calls out a vanilla chai (I ordered a vanilla latte) thinking it’s not mine I wait a little bit but no one grabs it, so I walk to the counter and asked the ladies “is this a vanilla latte?” They said yes. I said oh thank you I think you called out a vanilla chai so I didn’t think it was mine. With the most attitude she says “ the one before that was a chai sooo…” and just looks at me like I’m the idiot for not knowing it was mine WHEN SHE CALLED OUT THE WRONG DRINK!!! I’m super disappointed by my experience and the coffee was burnt so I just threw it away after two sips. Save yourself a trip and go to Coffeeholics...

I came here with my boyfriend after learning that Columbia City Bakery won the Seattle Baguette Contest in 2017 and 2019. We ordered the pretzel, chocolate croissant, baguette, ham and cheese croissant, a savory scone, and bostok. Pro: The pretzel was amazing. It was easily the best pretzel I've ever had at a fair price. My boyfriend loved the bostok. The baguette had a good texture but didn't have any flavor. I guess it would be good as a sandwich bread. The service was nice and friendly. Con: The chocolate croissant and ham and cheese croissant were not great. I would not order them again. Why didn't the baguette have any flavor? My boyfriend got food poisoning from the scone. He was up all night with the runs. So that REALLY wasn't worth it. Overall impression: This isn't a french bakery so if you're looking for one try another place. It's a very American bakery. The baguette is fine with butter on it to give it a butter flavor. That's not bad at all it's just different. But no place is worth having...

Columbia City Bakery is only opened Thursday to Saturday (honestly, good for them!). They have online pre-orders so you can order a few days before they open or order their hot sandwiches same day.

Everything is fresh baked and it’s always exciting to see what new baked goods they have each week, as some of the items on the menu rotate weekly or seasonally. Here are some of my favorites: The chorizo and mushroom hand pie are both excellent and comes out piping hot. If you had to choose, I prefer the chorizo. Shortbread cookies are the best I’ve ever had, whether the weekly flavor is lime zest, coconut, or my favorite, pistachio (it’s nutty!). Ham sandwich on ficelle Alaska breakfast sandwich Pretzel knots: Ask for their mustard for a perfect pairing Lemon meringue pie: The crust is perfect!

They also sell Herkimer beans and frozen pie dough, which are both amazing. I also love the coffee here.

It’s also fully opened now (instead of just a walk up window), so this is a great place to get...
