This place is amazing! I discovered it upon moving back to Seattle 3 weeks ago. I google challah and this one one of the listings that came up. I happened to be in the area a few days later and picked up 3 of their delicious challahs.

I returned this week and was too early for challah. I bought a dozen (baker’s dozen) bagels, some cinnamon rolls, a rye bread, some croissants and some cookies; everything was fantastic.

A short back story. As a child we were raised on “egg bread”. I didn’t even know from white bread until I was around 10 years old. It was made by a bakery in Southern California called Weby’s; used to be on Ventura blvd in studio city. When I graduated from high school I got a job at this same bakery. I have never found a bakery that made challah in a loaf like they did.

Fast forward to being at the Grateful Bread yesterday and I asked if they ever made their challah in a loaf. The person waiting on me said they had done it in the past and offered to check with the bakers about making some for me; they agreed.

Today I went and picked up two loaves of challah which were sliced on a machine almost identical to the one used at the bakery where I used to work; I recognized the machine immediately.

The food is awesome, the staff are awesome and I highly recommend adding the Grateful Bread to your list of go to spots. Whether your visiting Seattle or a resident you need the...

Listen…I’ve been coming here for decades. I love it. The baked goods are the best, and until recently the sandwiches were a go to. In the past month or so the Monday food crew has been failing every single Monday without fail. Constant mess ups, things missing that I pay extra for, blatant disregard of what’s on the ticket (no mustard, then drenched in mustard …?). I brought it up with a staff member who’s been working there for a while. They assured me it’s a training issue, bought my breakfast, and I was hopeful!!! Went on a Tuesday and the food was back to perfection!! Until today…the dreaded Monday. I ordered what I get every week, and checked before I left…because Monday crew. Of course the cheese was missing, which I pay extra for….so I ask if they can add the cheese to my sandwich, and the person just hands me cold pieces of cheese to add myself. I mean I can definitely do that, but like really? A huge bummer that the food keeps getting messed up. Hopefully the review will spark change because clearly the conversation I had with that staff member didn’t...

Have never had such an uncomfortable coffee buying experience. Long story to follow, short story, be prepared for okay coffee but grumpy baristas. Ordered skim latte, cuz unfortunately all other milk makes me puke. Went to pick up latte at counter, and did what I normally do at all coffee places and asked "just checking this has skim milk." The barista glares at me and starts steaming milk. Clearly, she misheard me, or I mumbled or it was loud, but anyways she hands me a cup of steamed milk. Confused, I say, "oh I'm sorry, I was just checking that the latte had skim." She glares again and grunts "of course it had skim." Clearly I upset her (understandably its a pain to make another drink), so I apologize again. She just glares at me again, so I say "I'm really sorry I made more work for you." More glares. In the end, I am questionable of the milk, cuz I ended up feeling sick 20 minutes after drinking the latte. Moral of the story is, don't question their orders, even if you are allergic to something. For me, I'm afraid to return...

I love this place. Everything is generally yummy. Outside of the super cute person with the long hair who has been cashier forever though, the service is soooo friggin slow. For example, went in today at 1245 to grab some lunch. A caesar salad with chicken. No line; maybe 10 folks in the dining area. Cute cashier was there and took my order super fast. Checked the board in the food service prep area, only saw two orders up and neither too big. There were six employees in the space; all laughing, hooting and hollering. A couple people came in after me, waiting a few minutes and got their orders. Weird right? I was there before them. Took 23 minutes to make a salad. 23 minutes! People got places to go/be, Grateful Bread. Hurry it up will ya? PS - Salad was chefs kiss btw, but it’s a simple thing to prep/turn isn’t it?
