This review is for my first experience receiving delivery from them through grub hub and my first time eating their food.
Let's start with the delivery. The order was very delayed while my diabetic partner was waiting for it. He's at work during this time.
He calls and the place has a mix up with the fax machine. But the food eventually arrives. It's warm. Cool. Resolved.
No.
Our order was barely decent to consume. I think this was the first bad order from ordering delivery since the pandemic started. Sure other places have had issues. Sometimes I'd get the wrong entree or something was slightly underdone or overcooked. It's understandable.
What we received didn't meet expectations for a restaurant of this kind.
I ordered languini zucchini. It's very oily. The lid on the foil pan it comes in was sticking to it. I had to scrape it off of the food. Few bits of zucchini. A very meager portion compared to what restaurants of this price and style usually provide. There is maybe two mushroom slices in it. It's bland. The noodles taste a little old or underdone. They tried to do the chopped basil thing. The basil is awful. It's edible and I'm sure I won't get sick *knocks on wood * but something wasn't right about it.
Next, my partner had a grinder. It's mostly bread. Bread is great, but this was like all bread and very little substance inside.
Soup? What soup? It was kind of a tomato water with a few pieces of chopped onion and more of that awful basil. It had a bitter aftertaste. I've never had tomato basil soup this watered down.. Or made bitter from basil stems. Yes the stems were in there. The basil was very overcooked.
At this point, if the owner is reading this, please tell the kitchen crew who worked Sunday between 5-8pm know this. We do not want any coupons. We will not be back.
The grand finale:
I had been so exited to have a cannoli. They're a rare treat. We spent over $50 at this restaurant. I'll add here that I threw out the soup and the other half of my $15 languini. Back to that dessert.
It was not there. Instead we had a stack of pita bread. At least my buttered and garlicky French bread that came with the languini was good. My partner didn't complain about his salad, either.
2 stars for the fact that this is a pandemic and it's not really their fault that the fax machine and grub hub had an issue.
Everything else? That's on them and again we do not want anything. Just talk to your kitchen crew. Reevaluate what your team needs. This was...
Read moredescription: A Build-Your-Own Calzone with pineapples, olives, and roasted garlic
The first thing I can talk about is the absolute size of this thing - what a beast I was not expecting it to be this big - when they brought it out I was actually shocked My first thought was "can I finish this"
What an incredible eating experience this was Firstly, the fried dough was pretty much perfect. It was a beautifully golden brown crispy on the outside coated with just enough oil, but the inside has a softness and was relatively easy to cut with a fork and knife. Just a fantastic outer layer
Eating this started with an near life-changing cheese experience. The amount of cheese piled into the first part of the calzone was incredible - and it was so beautiful - the cheese pulls, the way it combined with the dough - everything was perfect. I can't talk enough about what a cheesy goodness experience that is
Going onto the rest of the calzone - the pineapples and olives were excellent - and combined incredibly well with the remnants of the cheese and the rest of the dough
I wasn't a huge fan of the garlic, though. there was just wayy too many cloves, and placing them individually meant that you really had to eat them as the focus of a bite rather than adding as a side to a bite. I ended up taking out a lot of them because they didn't taste very good as the focus
I did have a main issue with this calzone. All the cheese was essentially on the left side, and all the toppings were on the right side - so these weren't evenly distributed at all. This led to an amazing explosion of taste during the first part of eating, but the second half was still good, but completely stuffed with toppings so that I got way more of the toppings than any cheese or dough while eating that half. While the toppings were good - I began to get tired when every bite was just toppings. I wish the toppings and cheese were spread out through the whole calzone equally
For the price, this was a really strong amount of food. I was able to finish it all but felt quite full afterwards. The dough being consistently good throughout really helped
Overall, started off incredible but tapered off a little towards the end, but still top-tier as an...
Read moreI'm conflicted between 3 and 4 stars because I'd divide it into pizza and pasta. To start - the pasta wasn't that good. However, the pizza was delicious! I was craving Italian because one of my roommates was heating up some pizza bites and so I stumbled upon Modena on Grubhub. Food was prepared quick and still steaming hot when I received it. Credits to both Modena and the driver for that.
I was looking forward to tasting some chicken parm but the one here wasn't quite satisfying. The chicken was made well and perfect when coupled with cheese, but the rest of the dish was mediocre. Honestly it was simple noodles doused with marinara topped with a piece of chicken that received all the love. Would have rather made my own pasta and added chicken.
That being said, most if not all pasta dishes are accompanied with garlic bread and another side. Those sides include more bread, salad, or soup. Personally, I chose the soup of the day to be surprised and it was chicken noodle soup. I almost chose extra bread, but I'm glad I didn't. The garlic bread was fluffy but rather bland. Chicken noodle soup was super hot but creamy and delicious.
On the other hand, pizza was fluffy and simply looked appealing which added to the overall taste. It was not overly saucy and allowed the toppings to shine. I opted for the Meat 10" with pepperoni, ham, sausage, and salami. I was able to appreciate each meat's flavor due to the minimal sauce versus a fast food joint where they may be a bit...
