The staff at the Courtyard by Marriott, near Pioneer Square, are friendly and fairly informative, to those who are new to the hotel experience.
I asked about a place to put my debit card because I was afraid of pickpockets. I asked if there was a safe to put it in and was told there were small lock boxes that require the keys of a staff member and a guest to open it. The explanation made me feel confident in having my small valuables protected.
I initially couldn't get the hotel room door to unlock. I asked for assistance at the front desk and was accompanied to the hotel room door. I discovered to my ignorance that I can't access the hotel room door with the door access cards together in the same envelope. I was told, if I needed any assistance, I could ring the Lobby from the phone near the elevator.
In the hotel, I ordered a chicken salad at The Bistro. The cook was able to accommodate my gluten-free needs. The salad was put together In just a few minutes. It had good presentation. The chicken in the salad was good.
The hotel was generally quiet inside. Occasionally there were the sounds of sirens and City traffic, reverberating between the buildings because, its at the edge of downtown Seattle. From my hotel room on the 13th floor, on the North side, it wasn't that intrusive and it quieted down at night until sometime after 6 a.m.
I have to say, I am new to this type of dense Urban environment and a little sensitive to sound. I was awoken twice early in the morning around 4 a.m. by people on the street having an altercation. I understand that's outside of the control of the hotel, on the public sidewalk, and I personally expected that to be more likely to happen, when staying the night in a densely populated location at the edge of downtown Seattle. Being on the 13th floor, The Sounds were quite diffused and I became more used to it, the second time and quickly fell back asleep.
The bathroom was clean and the towels were nicely arranged. The water pressure in the bathroom was adequate. The shower felt full and was refreshing and I felt clean.
The bed was arranged well and was comfortable to sleep in. The sheets felt softer then the bed I have at home.
Checking out of the hotel went well. This was the first time I checked out of a hotel. I was nervous about the checkout process and I preemptively asked for a printed receipt of my check out. The staff was friendly and I received a printed copy. Later on, I discovered a receipt...
Read moreI usually only post positive comments but I feel I should warn anyone who stays here. ||We checked in for two nights and gave our car to the valet - the only parking option available. They place the car in an enclosed garage down the street ||The next morning the car was broken into. Someone smashed the rear and door windows to grab stuff they could carry and not open the door to set off the alarm. The garage is closed early in the morning but apparently thieves hide in the garage. Apparently this has happened before. ||Even before checkout time the day after we checked in, we got a call that the car was broken into from the valet manager. What a way to mess up a vacation. We rushed back and were reminded how no one was liable for the damage (all that fine print on the parking ticket). The valet manager did a good job of sealing up the windows so we could get on our way and also said there would be no valet fee - what?? I would hope not. ||What was bizarre was the support (or lack of) from the Marriott Courtyard Seattle Pioneer Square. They actually charged us for the first night even though our day was cut short. We had to leave the hotel a day early because they could not secure the car. They thought they were being generous by not charging us an early checkout fee. I kid you not. ||Turns out the valets do not work for Marriott so it’s easy for the Marriott Courtyard to say it wasn’t their problem. What??? This is where legal responsibilities collide with what’s right. When we left, the front desk said there would be no bill - we were very surprised to see the bill for the one night. Clearly a miscommunication. When I called they made it sound like they were the hero here and there was no note about comping the night (the one that was interrupted).||The easiest thing to do for the hotel was to forgot this ever happened and simply not charge us. We have spent about $1750 to get the car fixed and replace what was taken. I have not asked for restitution. We live in California so can’t come back to take the hotel to small claims court. ||So beware! Do not stay at this hotel if you have a car you need them to secure. They won’t. The hotel is nice which is why I gave them 2 stars, but what an unfortunate experience. The lack of taking any responsibility just poured salt...
Read moreDO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL UNLESS YOU ARE CARRYING A GUN OR KNIFE!
Before you read any further, I am a Titanium Elite member that has traveled extensively for business over the past 15+ years staying almost exclusively in Marriott properties. I am among the most loyal Marriott customers with 1200+ lifetime nights.
I was in Seattle for business the week of Jan 22nd. At 7:00 AM on the morning of January 24th, I was standing under the awning of the hotel waiting for my Uber to arrive to go to a business meeting. I was approached immediately on the sidewalk by a homeless man screaming profanities. He proceeded to slap my iPhone out of my hand knocking it to the pavement, bumped me, and was standing in front of me screaming profanities and hate.
I was immediately afraid for my life. I have traveled the world for business and never had an experience that caused me to fear for my life.
Thankfully I was carrying a pocketknife which I deployed for my own protection. He stood there continuing to aggressively wave his arms and scream profanities in front of me as I faced him with my knife extended.
THERE WAS NO ASSISTANCE FROM ANY HOTEL EMPLOYEE OR SECURITY GUARD.
I stood my ground and he finally went down the sidewalk. When the incident was over, I turned around to see the valet attendant holding my phone that had been knocked to the ground. I also saw the security guard standing 4 or 5 feet away.
HOTEL SECURITY DID NOTHING TO ASSIST. I WAS LEFT TO DEFEND MYSELF.
Thankfully, I did.
The responses I have received from both the hotel directly and Marriott corporate have been casual and dismissive.
All I am left to do is something that I have never done before…write a negative Google review. First one ever…not how I do things.
My intentions with this review are to create action from Marriott to provide a reasonable level of safety to its guests and provide full disclosure for any traveler considering staying at the Courtyard Seattle Downtown / Pioneer Square.
I will NEVER stay at this property again and I strongly recommend you not to stay here either.
If you are considering staying here, you need to be immediately aware of your surroundings when you walk out the front door and know that your safety is entirely YOUR...
