Update in response to the response from the restaurant. The food still deserves 4 stars as it was very good despite some of it being cold and the small portions. I still recommend people go to support this small business and I hope their experiences will be better than mine. Hopefully whoever read this review can reflect and be better rather than being rude and defensive.
Idk why this person is responding like this and saying stuff about the food being processed when I never even talked about that or doubted their ingredients. All I said was the food was cold, small portions, and mediocre customer service. After seeing this rude and unprofessional response I’m a bit befuddled at the rudeness and defensiveness. All I have to say now is that at least if I go to Jack in the box the food is warm, the serving sizes are good, and the waiter actually takes my full order and doesn’t spend the entire time flirting with someone at the bar and being judgmental to customers.
Original review: 3.5 if I could rate it differently.
To start, the food was good, but with the amount of other issues I don't plan to come back anytime soon. To start the waiter walked away before we had even finished ordering, not even asking if that was all. The pumpkin choka was served room temperature, and upon ordering the waiter tried to mansplain to me that it "wasn't like American pumpkin pie" despite me assuring him I didn't think it would be and he continued to insist I was wrong decision it coming out completely as I expected despite it being cold.
The oxtail seemed as if it was put in the oven for 5 minutes, parts of it were cold and hot at the same time. It tasted incredible but I don't believe it was worth $30 for two pieces with some rice and kale. The jerk chicken was very good but like the other food it was slightly above room temperature and not worth $20 for two drumsticks. The green beans were the only food served hot worth the price. The coconut fry bread was a complete rip off, it was one piece of small bread for $6. The complimentary hot sauce was very delicious and needed as the food lacked spiciness. Finally the waiter made a comment at the end of the meal in total shock that we had finished the food and didn't need togo boxes which felt judgmental but it could just be personal, but the servings were quite small and not shocking at all that two people finished them. Along with the food the ambience was fine, only complaint was that the person playing music was using a service with lots of ads so it was constantly interrupting the meal.
Overall, the food was good but not worth the prices, mediocre and judgmental service, cold food, and...
Read morePam's Kitchen is very dear to me. There are so few restaurants that serve Trinidadian food, and even fewer still that carry the variety of Trinidadian dishes that Pam's Kitchen has. We have a few restaurants in Metro Vancouver that serve Trinidadian food, and while they serve up some decent eats, they mostly just serve roti. I love that I can get so many other types of familiar Trinidadian dishes at Pam's Kitchen, in addition to the roti!
Paratha Roti Pumpkin Choka Callaloo Sweet Fried Plantains Chicken Curry Roti Sorrel
Last time we came to Pam's Kitchen was years ago. I don't think they had Pumpkin Choka on the menu at that time. That's a new addition to me. Whenever I used to travel to Trinidad, one of my favourite foods to eat was Eggplant Choka. I'd never even heard of Pumpkin Choka until now. My husband seemed to like this dish. For me it was just OK. I prefer the Eggplant Choka that I'm more familiar with. However, I am still happy to see any kind of Choka at all on the menu as I have not seen it anywhere within Metro Vancouver.
My husband wasn't too crazy about the Callaloo; however, I actually loved the Callaloo. If I'd had more room in my tummy I would have loved to have ordered some rice to eat with the Callaloo as that was always my favourite way to eat it in Trinidad. The Paratha roti however was very nicely done and paired well with the Callaloo in place of the rice that I would usually have it with.
There's no going wrong with Sorrel or Sweet Fried Plantains!
For tasty Caribbean eats that will whisk you away to the twin islands of Trinidad & Tobago, look no further than Pam's Kitchen !

Read moreMy family will never go here again! I repeat Never go here again! My family and I went to Pam's Saturday at 5pm from Kent WA because I was told from my aunt in Austin TX it was suppose to be a good place because she seen it on Diners Drive in and dines. So we arrived at 5pm are wasitress who was extremely apologetic didn't get to us until 10 minutes later. It was about 10 people there so wasn't packed we order fried plantains right then and 1 hour and half later still didn't get our appetizer. We didn't get our drinks until and 1hour later. We order our food at 520pm and never received it after being there almost 2 hours with a 7year old child, a 16month old and my husband. I let the waitress know that we still haven't received anything multiple times, she keep telling me she was sorry and she didn't know what was going on and she was going to figure it out. At this point it's 6pm and we just recieved our drink I asked for the owner Pam who was there and she told the waitress she would be there in a few. Now it's 630pm she passes us 6 or 7 times doesn't say anything or even acknowledges my family. She bring out the people next to us food who has only been there 30 mins, when we have been here 2 hours. Then after seeing that we left the place. It was very poor service and Pam was very rude as a business women she should feel ashamed. 2 hours we waited there politly and patiently and still wasn't given the...
