Unfortunately we didn’t get to try the food. We arrived for a late breakfast/brunch and understood there might be a line. Which there was.
For the ~45 minutes we waited outside, we realized that almost every person standing around outside were delivery drivers doing pickup. There was actually only one other couple ahead of us for those 45 minutes. Then we realized that in those 45 minutes, we only saw one table leave, which was taken by the couple ahead of us at the 45 min mark.
That’s when my radar went up. Only one table left in 45 min, and 4-5 delivery drivers left with food. And upon reflection, I realized that all of the drivers looked annoyed, I’m assuming because it took so long to get the orders.
I went inside to use the bathroom and along the way I noticed that only two tables had food. One was in the process of eating, and the other one was waiting for their plates to be cleared. Upon closer inspection, I realize that every other table was waiting for food.
Doing the math, in 45 minutes one table left, two tables were served, and 4–5 drivers left with food. That means everybody else has been waiting for 45 minutes (or longer). So I stopped and asked a couple of tables if they had their food yet and how long they had been waiting. They all confirmed my suspicion. It’s at that point we decided to leave and go find breakfast somewhere else. Sadly.
This restaurant has amazing reviews, so I have no doubt that the food is amazing. I just wish that we could try it. I think the restaurant, given their inability to handle even low volume, should make the hard decision to not accept deivery orders. Either you are there to eat, or you’re not.
In the meantime, they have decided to prioritize delivery orders at the expense of the customers that are there in person, and I’m flabbergasted.
I wish them all the luck in the world, I will be watching and waiting for the day when delivery drivers do not rule the breakfast rush at this restaurant. Thanks...
Read moreThis is hands down the most affordable, classic breakfast establishment in Seattle. I have tried many places and Sunrise takes the gold medal. The food meets expectations for an affordable breakfast, nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary, and the portions are ample. Both affordability and large portions are a rare combination for this city.
Ideal spot for broke and hungover college students, which is why I have frequented this joint many times over this past year! And I will be back again (obviously)!
I ordered the pancakes with two eggs and sausage, which I believe was around $12. The pancakes were good—not greasy, very fluffy, big, a nice golden brown color, and definitely sufficient on their own. Eggs and sausage were satisfactory, it’s challenging to mess those two things up though.
I’ve also had their chicken fried steak, which I would highly recommend. Can’t find a better deal in Seattle, and the dish was excellent (from what I can recall). I’m a big chicken fried steak fan, and I can advocate for this one. Wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but I certainly left feeling better about life and without complaints.
My friend had the chorizo crepes, which she said she didn’t like…but that’s her review to write not mine :)
The main selling point here is truly the quality and portion sizes for the price.
The restaurant is located off Aurora and there is parking in the back and on the side. The interior is modest but has good lightings from the two big windows up front. Service was quick...
Read moreI recently dined at Sunrise Restaurant, the new kid on the block in our neighborhood, and I must say it was quite an experience! The food was exceptional - not only in taste but in portion size too. They really give you your money’s worth here. Prices were reasonable and, to top it off, we got a fantastic grand opening week discount. Talk about a great deal! What made our visit even more enjoyable was the fact that they were still serving breakfast late into the afternoon. I’m a sucker for breakfast, and having the option to indulge in it all day long was a pleasant surprise. I took my senior citizen parents along, and they couldn’t stop raving about the food. In good humor, they even asked if the restaurant offers senior citizen discounts. The staff was friendly, which added to the overall pleasant atmosphere. One suggestion I’d have is for the restaurant to consider offering smaller or half portions. It would be perfect for my girl friends who prefer lighter meals. I’m looking forward to seeing them make this improvement. In a nutshell, Sunrise Restaurant is a welcome addition to our neighborhood, with great food, reasonable prices, and friendly service. Don’t miss out...
