I had been here before in 2021 and had a great experience. For that reason, guy and I decided to book for 2/15 in honor of Valentine’s Day since we weren’t able to go out on that Friday. What a weird experience…
First, we ordered drinks which took about 10-12 mins and when she did come back, she was empty handed. Told us a bottle of wine broke behind the bar and they were cleaning it up and I SPECIFICALLY asked if it was the bottle of what I had ordered. We BOTH heard her say a definite NO. Ok cool… She leaves again and I’m thinking she’s coming back with drinks. She does not. She comes back to tell me that my drink is going to take “a really long time” (huh?) and asks if I want something else. I tell her no, I’ll wait. She comes back again empty handed and says it WAS the bottle of what I had ordered that broke and that drink isn’t an option. I’m sorry but, you don’t have another bottle of Spumante to open on VALENTINES DAY?! She also offers ZERO apology for the inconvenience which really kind of irks me. Ok fine. I order the sparkling Moscato. She leaves, (finally) brings my guys beer and tells me they are also out of my second choice. I ask her if my third choice of bubbly is sweet and she says she doesn’t know and has to go ask. I kid you not, she took almost 10 mins to ask that question and come back. It turns out it’s dry so I decide I don’t want it.
I am extremely agitated at this point and just want a darn drink so I order a glass of wine. That comes and again, ZERO APOLOGY for the wait or for the inconvenience. We order our food and an appetizer.
Crab dip was good. Salmon was dry and mediocre and pretty sure my guys mashed potatoes were mixed with the instant kind. My appetizer plate was riddled with black scuffs as though it had been dragged across the kitchen floor a few times and the silverware was incredibly spotty. I had worked in the food service industry for many years and I know this can happen but when you’re charging what they are charging for food, that shouldn’t be the case. Presentation should be in line with prices.
The meal was expensive and we were prepared for that but we were not prepared to pay $120 and receive this terrible service and eat mediocre food. My guys surf and turf was $60 which is absolutely fine but if you are an establishment that is going to charge THAT much for food- the service needs to match. Without question. It just does.
Prices like that are audacious and pretentious if you can’t even get a decent drink, have a well stocked bar, decent service and moderate presentation. The communication about what has been 86’ed was NOT clear to the staff and the young woman serving us had little to no people skills or knowledge of the establishment she works for. She might be new and that’s fine BUT, again, if you are going to charge that much for mediocre food, the service needs to match. Perhaps a bit more training before letting them be on their own to serve tables, especially on the biggest date night of the year.
I am very disappointed and will not be back. I hope the young woman who served us can get some better people and food service skills. The only reason we didn’t speak to a manager at the risk of being called a “Karen” is because at this point, we just wanted to leave. And we did. Disappointed and disgusted,...
Read moreFirst off: I grew up in Selinsgrove and visited here a number of times over the years. I knew it was overpriced and the food was average. I accepted BJ’s for what it was and what it wasn’t. However, tonight was a new low. The food and service were terrible. Starting with the well known Bongo-Bongo dip. The bread served with the dip tasted funky like the griddle hadn’t been cleaned. The “butter” on the bread was off and added to the unusual taste. The first meal of the night was the freshly made pasta with added grilled chicken. The sauce tasted like seafood that must have been cooked in an uncleaned pan or being mixed with another order. The chicken on top was hacked and over done. It was burnt and black on numerous surfaces. $6 chicken that was dry, burnt, and had been recooked once hacked. I knew the chicken was recooked because even the cut ends had black grill grime on them. The pasta chicken dish was inedible. The second dinner ordered was the steak and cake for $34. Starting with the cake: the crab meat is back fin meat and not lump but for the price it should be lump. The meat type used is stated on the menu but what makes it terrible is the overuse of old bay seasoning. It’s all you taste. So you are getting a cheap crab meat cake with over seasoning for about $12. The steak is seared with a hard crust, however the seasoning was burnt and so hard that one end of my steak could not be eaten. Even the baked potato was sub par. It was hard and dense. Like it had been held for too long or steamed instead of baked. A true baked potato should have a crisp skin and be fluffy on the inside. The worst part of the whole experience was the fact that our waitresses did not check on us for 30 minutes after receiving our food. 7:09 pm food received and 7:39pm was the first check back. She couldn’t even remember who ordered which entree when bringing out the food. There was no chance to explain my concerns or get a remake because of the 30 minute wait to check back. When we finally got a check back we were treated with the standard, “how was everything”. Even though there was one plate of uneaten food and another half eaten. I voiced my concerns and she went to retrieve a manager. To my surprise the kitchen manager came to the table. At this point I showed him all of the issues with the food. He was overwhelmed and had no response other than being apologetic. Next the waitress returned and I asked for the floor manger. She came over and asked what the issues were. First thing I did was bring up the 30 minute delay in visits from the waitress. The manager’s response was, “well I will have to check the cameras.” No sorry or taking my word. Just to clarify I knew the exact times due to text messages sent to family watching my children. 7:09pm to 7:39pm. So please check the cameras. She was argumentative and rude. I showed her the food and she had no response. In conclusion, eat elsewhere and don’t waste the money. Way overpriced for poorly made food and service. Feel free to...
Read moreMy sister and I stopped there. OMG The Starter was the Rolls and Cornbread that came with the meal. To DIE FOR!! I don't even like corn bread, but I tasted it anyways and it was moist and sweet and now I know what cornbread should taste like and I am converted. The Rolls were right out of the oven, Hot and Tender, sooo sooo good. Could just eat the rolls only, that is how good they were. But don't do that or you will miss the Appetizer we had of Fried dill pickles, Tart, tangy hot goodness. Now comes the problem, "Getting full to early." Our fried Oysters arrive with french fries and coleslaw. OMG again, I have eaten fried oysters before and love them but these are the best I have ever ate in my life. They get them in fresh and hand bread them, Yes I asked them, you can tell it because they are Excellent, Ate everyone of them. Now we are full, so could only eat a few of the "of course" great fries and really good cole slaw, Hated to waste not eating all of the fries and slaw but no room and could not take it home since we were traveling through Selingsgrove. I would give this 10 stars if had a choice. I am going to take my guy there for his Christmas Present. He doesn't need any stuff but I will get him stuffed with their great food. Now the quandary, we want to try the steak too, Think we will get both, steak and oysters and split our meals to get the best of both. You will NOT be disappointed eating there. I will try and get more pictures this time. Not your usual steak joint, Oh and they have an oyster bar. Go and...
