This was our second time going to McGuire's. The first time was an extremely busy Friday night (pre covid, this time last year). Even so, the service was prompt & the food was absolutely delish! I ordered the Bourbon Bacon Chicken, on that visit, with roasted brussel sprouts & mashed potatoes. Heaven in my mouth, y'all! We came for lunch today. We were seated fairly quickly. When our hostess put our menus down, the one she placed on top (drink menu) was visibly really dirty. She placed our silverware wrapped in a cloth napkin on top of that dirty menu. Kind of ick, but no big deal. We simply pushed those napkins away from our plates & used paper napkins instead. We ordered appetizers. Lobster stuffed mushrooms as well as one scotch egg. The mushrooms were SO good! Just keep in mind that they're pretty expensive ($12 if memory serves me well) and there are only 5 small mushrooms. The scotch egg wasn't bad, at all. We'd never had one before so really had no expectations. We each agreed that we'd probably never order one again as there wasn't much flavor goin on there, but it was a neat new food experience anyway. The honey mustard dipping sauce was tasty. One of our appetizer plates came out pretty dirty. Our waitress apologized and quickly replaced it for a clean one. For a meal, I ordered the fish & chips. The fish was cooked phenomenally and the homemade tartar sauce was spot on! The fries were just fries but not at all bad. And that bottomless slaw was super yum-o!!! Overall, a really good dish. My hubs got the Bourbon Bacon Chicken with brocolli & mash, this time. The chicken came out with very, very little sauce (which is liquid gold, ya'll, and an absolute must) but our waitress brought him out a small bowl (we later discovered that the bowl of liquid deliciousness cost an extra dollar but he said it was worth it, so it's all good) and so he left with a full belly and a smile on his face. Our waitress (I THINK her name was Julie or Julia) was extremely attentive & cheerful. Atmosphere is so fun. If it weren't for covid, we'd be regulars...
Read moreBefore I say anything, I want to make a note that it was the day before St. Patrick's Day and to say it was busy would be an understatement.
Surprisingly, the wait wasn't bad at all! We sat within 15 minutes of arrival at 4 pm, they offered our drinks when we arrived 345, we just had water.
After we were sat, they were offering a smaller holiday menu due to the holiday, mainly the top sellers, understandable and not a bad idea.
We had soft pretzels with cheese and mustard, and they were a 5 out of 5!!! We also had the Reuben spring rolls, another 5 out of 5!!!
For entrees, we had fish and chips, and the reuben with fries, The reuben was also a 5 out 5. The fries were hot, cripsy, and fantastic! The fish was just OK a 4 out of 5. The batter just didn't have any noticeable seasoning, It was cooked nicely, golden and crispy, just bland. The cole slaw was a little dry for my taste, but everyone's different on their preference with slaw.
The service is where I had a slight issue, we were checked on in passing, but that initial beverage we received at 345 upon our arrival was THE ONLY TIME THOSE CUPS WERE TOUCHED, not one refill OF WATER during the entire 1 hour 15 minute visit. Now again, I did note that they were extremely busy, BUT there is busy, and then there's just being plain forgotten about, which I believe is the category we fell into, which why I believe the service was only a 3 out of 5. The limited menu should have helped offset some of the table wait times to prevent these types of situations from occurring. Unfortunately for us, I did not.
We definitely intend on returning in the next 5 to 6 weeks, just to compare...
Read moreMy children and their families, along with my husband and I, come to McQuires when they come from out of town. They love the uniqueness of McQuires and the food is good. We all came to celebrate my daughter’s birthday today and at the end I was afraid we would not be coming back. I had ordered 2 of the pretzel rods with mustard ($6), however they brought soft pretzels with cheese ($14). Before I could say anything, my family started digging in so I told the server to just leave it, but I thought I should be charged for the pretzel rods. The food was excellent and the server did a great job in accommodating all of us, 12 in all. When the ticket came, it had $28 on there for the soft pretzels. My husband and I spoke to the manager and told him the situation, he felt like since the pretzels were eaten then we should pay for the $28. My husband and I were not arguing, but we would not have be bringing our family back. When the ticket came, the manager had taken $14.50 and I was very thankful for that. I left the server the extra money and added to her tip since we were a large party and she did such a great job. The food and service is excellent! To the manager, thank you for your consideration. My husband is a business owner and knows that sometimes it’s better to lose a little on a ticket and continue to have the customers come back again and again and to also get a good review and a good word of mouth! We will continue to bring our family of 12+ more to...
