This was my second time visiting this establishment. It is also the last time I will ever visit this establishment. I came a second time because the first time the food and the service were excellent. However, yesterday afternoon when I went in to have lunch with family, I discovered when the receipt for my payment came I had been charged extra to pay the bill. Management said there was a sign on the door. However, there was nothing on the bill that would have told me I would be charged extra at the time of payment. I didn’t see the sign on the door either. And management justification was “other people are doing it”. When you charge extra to pay the bill you send a message that your business isn’t as important as taking the customer for all you can. When this happens people tend to not tip the server because they feel ripped off, even over a couple of dollars. This is an unacceptable practice and I will not return and spend another dime at this establishment. What management fails to realize is that not a lot of people carry a bunch of cash these days and often only enough to leave a tip or pay for small purchases under $10 -$20. So, when you charge people extra to pay their bill with a bank card or credit card, that guarantees you payment by the way, and retailers pay approximately 3 whole cents per transaction for the contract THEY have with the company that processes card transactions, you take money out of the pockets of your employees. And, for someone such as myself raises questions about the kind of person who owns and runs a business like this, penalizes patrons for not carrying enough non-traceable funds to eat at your establishment for the menu price. Legitimate businesses don’t operate this way and the only time I have ever seen a charge for a card purchase was at some little tiny gas station in the middle of nowhere that couldn’t possibly have enough business revenue to pay the higher fees for processing fewer transactions with the company they contracted with to process those payments; AND I have been asked ahead of time if that was ok and given a choice, AND it was ONLY for purchases under $5. So I have to wonder if some books aren’t also being cooked in the...
Read moreI've gone here 4 times. The first time I came here I was with my family, we all order our food and there is like 3-4 other tables, we wait an hour for our food and in that hour a new group that came got their food before ours and then once our food arrived mine didn't and the hostess said the kitchen was backed up? If there is 3-4 other tables you shouldn't be backed up that's just poor management. So I wait another 20 minutes for my food (while the waiter and hostess are just talking) and then I get my food which is cold. And while we are eating the kitchen staff is blaring their own music which ruins the entire vibe of the place for me. The 4th time was just recently we go there and it's my parents, little brother and baby sister. We get seated and order a chicken quesadilla as an appetizer which was like 12 dollars for four slices with a bunch of extra stuff that we didn't realize would be in there(our fault) then we order our food and we get it all except for my dad and he ordered tacos (all I can remember) and then the waitress comes back saying that they don't have a main ingredient for the tacos and asked my dad if he wanted to order anything else so he ordered the chorizo omlet. The waitress leaves and then comes back because she forgot the order so she asked my dad if he wanted the steak omelet or the chorizo omelet, my dad reiterated the chorizo omelet. The waitress comes back with steak and chorizo and toast which was not what my dad ordered but he still ate it. He was supposed to get the chorizo omelet with hashbrowns and eggs and toast but he got a very screwed up order. Overall, it's not a bad place but the staff is very inconsistent and needs to improve because coming here is a 50/50 chance of a good experience...
Read moreThis whole area of Shakopee has been spruced up and remodeled from the seventies look. Ruby's ownership sounds like they remodeled in 2020, then CoVid hit, and they dealt with it. There are configurations for twosomes through large families to find their desired kinds of seating. Having just come from the St. Francis Medical Center, I wanted to reward myself, but passed up on a huge burger with fries and a beer special after 10 am; I saw one pass by, and it looked nice and fresh cooked. We both had breakfast skillets. My apple skillet had sweet potatoes, peppers, chopped apple, and greens at the bottom of a cast iron skillet, and I got two braised eggs on top with a good English muffin. It was very filling and really, I should have taken a box home. My wife had a skillet which also looked great. The coffee is good. The menu is very large and the listed prices are extremely reasonable, post the government debt meltdown in the restaurant business.
One thing to note: if you pay with a card, your price is the listed menu price plus about another 3 1/4 percent to cover the outrageous increase in interchange fees taken by Visa and Mastercard. Almost every other industry, including healthcare where they save lives, is facing downward pressure on prices and fees. Yet these two oligopolists raise prices because they can. So, you will see that passed on increase if you use a card as we did.
Nevertheless, if you're in the neighborhood. It's a very good iteration of the true...
