Ranucci's — Restaurant in Sharpsburg

Very unassuming from the outside, but walking inside is like stepping back into time - in the best way possible! The bar area with the high tops is cozy and intimate – a small stained glass lamps on the bar lend a romantic vibe. A few medium sized TVs - one playing college football - kept it from feeling overly stuffy. A large oval window overlooking Main Street in Sharpsburg tied the evening together for us - a special blend of Pittsburgh’s not-so-distant past with the present.

We had crab cakes and stuffed banana peppers as appetizers – the banana peppers were spicy without feeling overwhelming. The crab cakes were delicious, and the portions felt very generous. Salmon a top orzo was the seafood pasta special – the salmon was perfectly charred and juicy in the middle. I’m not sure I’ve ever had such a tasty piece of fish! My husband’s scallops came with a side of shrimp and risotto - also delicious. We were so full that we had no room for the homemade cannoli! At the time of our visit this place has been around for a few months. There is a smallish parking lot on the side of the building that is one way going on to Main St. There is a nice handicapped ramp for those in need.

It's not clear if the kitchen opens at 4 or 5 as we had to sit at the bar until 5 pm when dining room was opened.

If you want a mocktail be prepared to tell them how to make it. They do not stock any NA spirits.

My parents liked their dishes but my husband and I found our dishes severely lacking in salt. The pasta water clearly was not salted. The plates were way too big for the portion of food served. There seems to be a lack of finesse.

Do not wish to write this place off but will give it some time before...
