Drastic Measures — Restaurant in Shawnee

This WAS a 5-star review. Over time it has dropped... significantly. My first review was:

"Fantastic stylish mixology. Hip atmosphere and groovy specialized drinks."

Then, as the bar started to make their politics their focus in the local community and, obviously by the nature of doing so, more important than their core business, I changed my review to 2 stars and added:

"Unfortunately, they let their far left politics shine brightly and that will cost them business and reputation in the community. It is unwise for a business to do that."

Now, I am reducing my review to one star due to the business, with no knowledge or understanding of MY beliefs (theirs they have made clear for all to see on Facebook and other social media as well as within their establishment), implied to the Facebook audience that I am a racist by making a contribution in my name to the NAACP for black history month as an ill-fated attempt to imply that I will be in some way horrified that they dare to contribute to an organization I am opposed to (which is a grave misunderstanding on their part), implying I am a racist. I thank them for their donation as that is an organization that I support and ask that they produce the receipts for this contribution for all to see. This type of immature, unjustified name-calling is, unfortunately, the standard rebuttal of weak-minded, ignorant, political ideologs that are unable to respond to any criticism with anything resembling mature, productive action.

I encourage readers of this review to look up the Facebook post to see how this business clearly demonstrates their ignorance, their pride in it, and their willingness to act on it. They laid bare for all to see their smug, immature attitudes they hold and how they are willing to attack others' "perceived" beliefs with the most heinous of implied accusations - based on nothing. They made THEIR politics apparent - any of my beliefs remain unknown to them and are irrelevant to my review of THEIR business practices and actions. I never saw and was not responding to any "sign" that they reference in their Facebook post and their references to my motives that they CAN NOT KNOW serve as more examples of how they ignorantly and immaturely jump to conclusions, make assumptions, make accusations, and act out name-calling based on nothing they could possibly know.

I strongly recommend you avoid ANY business that behaves in similar manner. I do hope the business learns from this experience and no longer lashes out in ignorance at their potential customer base and, especially, to show off the unjustified and unwarranted attacks and implications on social media. I have been so excited to try this bar since it opened, I finally got the opportunity last night and in the end it wasn’t worth it at all. The service was rude and horrible. It took about 15 minutes for the server to come take our order, when he finally came over I asked for something off menu because I didn’t see anything on the drink menu that spoke to me. I’m a pretty easy going bar patron, I really don’t ask for fancy, complicated drinks and I’m polite about it. I asked if they could make a specialty drink for me, I asked if they had egg white, the server said “we make it the vegan way with aquafaba”, I said “oh perfect, would I be able to get a vodka drink made for me?” He said “I guess”. I was also holding a drink recipe book that they had on the table, which I assumed would be possible to use as a guide for a drink, I was wrong. I asked if something similar could be made from a recipe in the book and that apparently offended the server, he proceeded to berate me about how it is so disrespectful to come to a specialty bar and then ask for something off menu and from another drink makers recipe. I didn’t even get the chance to explain what I was thinking before he became so rude, when I shut the book and said “never mind” his response was “sick”. Then he looked to my husband for his order, my husband also tried to order something not on the menu and the server rolled his eyes, huffed and said “bro, did you even look at our menu, it’s so disrespectful to ask for something other than a menu item”. This interaction was so off putting and was followed by another “sick” from the server when my husband said “nevermind, I won’t order anything.” We were later brought the drinks we asked for but we didn’t order them. I’ve gotta say, for a bar that prides themselves on specialty drinks, patrons should be allowed to order a specialty drink without the server/bartender taking offense. Needless to say, we will never be returning to this bar again. It’s too “sick” to put into words the measure of disappointment...
