Hank's Garage and Grill — Restaurant in Shawnee

We went once during the soft opening week where we sat at the bar top and only got a cocktail and a beer. We were impressed but excited to come back when the patio opened and the weather was nice. We came back a few weeks later. That visit we got a burger, loaded tots, and the spam fries along with a cocktail and a draft beer. The food is very good, I will say. I think the price point is just steep for elevated diner bar vibes in Shawnee. Cocktails are all batched which wasn’t the case on the first visit as I watched the bartender make it. Cool outdoor area. No dogs are allowed which is fine, however if no dogs are allowed I’m not really sure why very small children were allowed to run amok off leash getting in several patrons and staffs way all while screaming. They have a lot of TVs great for game days, race days, match days…however this garage bar changed it off of a live Nascar race on 3 separate occasions during our fairly short visit to put it on a rerun of an NFL game (it was April). Uber-popular joints are typically not my thing, but the vibe here is. My wife and I recently visited. We got there right at 11:00AM, and others were already seated, so we're guessing they may actually seat before their posted opening hour. The "hostess" was this big dude that looked like a moonlighting MMA fighter :) , and he was really cool to us. My wife had the Hank's Original burger. I can say it was great, as I had a bite too. The surprise star of the show were the thinly-cut steak fries!! Highly recommend! So, I have a thing for friend pork tenderloin sandwiches. This was the chefiest one I've ever enjoyed. It's thinly-pounded and has a tempura batter. It dressed with a house-made dill and herb aioli, pickled red onions, radishes and Boston bib/butter lettuce. Another review mentioned a lack of seasoning. They've fixed that. Our server was great as well. Out the door at just over 50 bucks with a decent tip. Atmosphere is good, a little loud but there's a lot of space & people if you like that. The food was a bit more inconsistent. We had both of the burgers on their menu, and they were good but not worth the money paid ($15) at best this is a $9-10 burger. The tots and fries were really good though. The Sonoran dog sounded great but the flavors were a let down. Didn't taste like anything and once we put some salt on it then the flavors came through better but overall wasn't as good as it sounded. I think the flavors could use some tweaking just to make them more pronounced. The kids meals which consisted of hot dogs cooked to look like octopus and fries was okay. My kids said the little "tentacles" were tough and hard to eat so probably overcooked. The service was great, our waitress was very friendly, really everyone was very nice. The wait to get food was a bit much (30 min) but it was busy. Overall I get the feeling people come here not so much for the outstanding food but more for the atmosphere.
