Updated 4/6/21. Had a much better experience this time around. Ordered online for a 5pm pickup. Got there a little early and it wasn't ready, which was great to hear that it would be fresh for when I ordered it. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Food was great and flavorful and was not dried out. Everyone in the family enjoyed their meals this time! Glad we gave it another try. Looks like they have worked out all the kinks! Good work Guys! Everyone should give it a try!
Old Review:
First let me begin by saying that we love Hawaiian Brothers and frequent the location in Overland Park across the street from Johnson County Community College. We were very excited to see that they were opening a new location in Shawnee in the old Boston Market building.
Tonight, we placed a takeout order online on the company's website at a little after 4 PM and selected 4:45 for a pickup time. We ordered 5 meals consisting of different chicken items and the pork. Immediately after placing the order a pop-up screen said the order would be ready in 5 minutes (so around 4:25). We also received an email stating the food would be ready at 5:25. Confused as to what time to pick-up the food, we called the number listed for order related questions. We tried calling 3 times and got an answering machine each time.. Not knowing what to do we left work early to head to the restaurant.
When we arrived, at approximately 4:40, the food was already ready. I will say that they did a great job with the actual pick-up process. When we got home, all 5 of us were very disappointed with the quality and taste of the food. The chicken was very dry and the pork had a unusual taste. Unfortunately, we were only able to tolerate a few bites before we just had to throw it all away.
I am hoping this negative experience was related to the fact they had just opened this location and have a few bugs to work out.
As states previously, we are big fans of Hawaiian Brothers and will give this location another try at some point...
Read moreThe place is relatively new (opened in April of 2021, it is now July) so I wanted to go a few times before reviewing.
The first few times I could tell employees were still training because portions were small.
The food has always been delicious, so that’s never a disappointment. However they have gotten additional management or training that is simply exceptional. They are always very fast, and rarely (if ever) is there a line. It is usually very busy, which is no surprise, but I have never had to wait for my food for more than a couple of minutes tops.
This last time I went I was especially pleased because a supervisor was attentive enough to ask us for our opinion and admitted that as a newish location they are still smoothing things out. If this person goes up the ladder the future of the company will definitely keep thriving.
Once home, the food was visibly beautiful, and of course the taste was delicious as usual.
If you came here before and had a not-so-great experience I do recommend giving it another shot given that things have started running more smoothly and the portions are gigantic (especially on the large). To give an idea, my very tall (6’4”) very husky husband will usually eat three-ish meals out of one large plate. It’s mostly rice, chicken, veggies, and pasta (along with other sides you can add) and our kids are always excited to come here. It is a...
Read moreI have been to other Hawaiian Brothers locations so I was really looking forward to having one closer. This location's initial opening had incredibly long car lines with police directing traffic. We waited until the hype had passed to check it out and were there after the dinner rush. First impression, looks good on the outside, surprised upon entering - screen ordering only? Multiple people touching the same screen? No food visible? We enjoy interacting with employees of an establishment so we thought of going elsewhere but most of our party of 4 had never been to an Hawaiian Brothers so they decided to stay and give it a try. We couldn't find a way to remove the rice and mac and cheese from the meal so we took the meals as is and added vegetables and pineapples. Although the screen indicated we could pay, it wouldn't take our payment so we paid at the oddly dark, small counter area; the majority of the space is light and airy. We appreciated the unique drink offerings. The food came out quickly, at the right temperature and everything was flavored well though some pieces of chicken were charred. The eating area is open with large windows on the East side of the building; allowing for natural indirect afternoon light. Overall, the experience didn't leave us with a...
