I had an excellent experience recently at ACE Hardware #04704, thanks to the standout service from Gail, John, and Corey.

Gail greeted me warmly the moment I walked in — by name, which was a nice surprise — and immediately made me feel welcome. She offered great suggestions for grill equipment and even shared a few BBQ tips that came in handy later. Friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly someone who enjoys helping people.

John was incredibly helpful in tracking down the exact kind of gas I needed for a very specific project. He understood what I was describing right away and made sure I left with the right container and setup — no guesswork, no hassle.

Corey helped me troubleshoot a kiln repair project, and I really appreciated how thoughtful and creative he was in working through possible solutions. He clearly knows his stuff and took the time to make sure I had what I needed.

Westlake ACE hardware in Shawnee, KS can't be beat for hardware. Unlike the big box stores, you can still purchase individual fasteners instead of having to buy the jumbo box. (You know, the expensive jumbo box that the big box stores won't let you open to see if it's REALLY what you need?) Hardware staff is very helpful and will help you find that weird connector or bolt you need. Also they have some of the best deals on furnace filters, even cheaper than the big box stores. Staff always has a friendly "hello" when you enter.

HOWEVER: Do not buy your paint here if you need them to make a color for you. I have tried several times over the years and they have NEVER gotten a color right for me, even when it's being mixed from one of their own samples! Want eggshell finish? They'll give you flat. Want "Limesicle?" They'll give you "Minced Onion." Want sage green? It's electric seafoam for you! I am really not sure why I keep trying; Sherwin-Williams is right down the street, comparably priced, and gets it right every time.
