Johnny's Tavern Shawnee — Restaurant in Shawnee

We were seated immediately upon entering. Our server was there in less than a minute to take our drink order and returned with our drinks just as quickly. This is where the great experience ended.

Eventually, she returned for our food order. Our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. We had no silverware and when we asked one person for some, he brought us one set. When we asked our server, she said she'd be right back with them then proceeded to take the order of 2 more tables while I got up and retrieved silverware for the rest of us.

The nachos I ordered had no cheese on top! None. I eventually found it on the plate UNDER the chips. The chips had not been heated and the beef topping was dried out and cold. The fish n chips my friends ordered looked like over-battered fish sticks and didn't taste much better. The fries were ok but our ketchup bottle was empty. It was easier for me to get one from another table than to wait for one. Temperature was lukewarm. My other friend ordered a tenderloin which came out thinner than one should ever be but it was hot.

I realize we were dining in a bar but the table of obnoxiously drunk and loud people next to us almost caused us to leave before we were done. I noticed their beers were delivered quickly and they had the attention of more than one server.

All in all a very frustrating experience. Not...

I am only posting this because this is the second time in a row this has happened at this location. I ordered food for carry out about a month ago and was shorted an entire meal. I figured there are enough locally owned businesses that I can avoid being ripped off. My son is in town today to watch the Chiefs game and wanted wings, which are very tasty. So I ordered a dozen wings and an order of cheese/spinich dip. I picked my order up, and when you tip the server $5 to carry an order 15 feet, I always thought that you tipped them because they are to ensure the order is correct. Yes, I should have looked in the bag to check my order, but I figured "How can they screw up an order of 2 things?" So, I get home and yes they shorted me the order of spinich dip. Shame on me for trusting a business to actually uphold a simple thing. But at least my son got his $35, 12 wings and 1 little plastic cup thingy only 1/2 full of ranch. Great food and drink specials...The pizza is some of the best in town. The place can be very loud (it's a bar, so it's expected) but it's very family friendly. Just sit far away from the bar so you don't have to listen to the drunken idiots. There are a bazillion TVs, all tuned to sports (they are BIG on sports). The 2 story outside patio is nice and they have a roll up door to let some fresh air inside when the weather is good. The restaurant is clean with lots of seating and it looks nice as it's a pretty new building. The problem here is the staff. The management and bartenders are friendly and helpful but they can't seem to keep consistent good servers. I tend to go during lunch or dinner and its usually good. But, I've heard from others the food isn't as good in the later hours. Regardless, I give them 5 stars because the food and prices are excellent and Johnny's is a staple of the Shawnee community.
