I hate giving negative reviews. I always try to find the redeeming qualities of a place and give the staff plenty of opportunities to make up for shortcomings.... unfortunately, there really wasn't enough positive to make up for the sheer 'meh'-ness of this place. We were really excited to try this place considering 'prohibition' places tend to be fun a kitchy.... To the server's credit, she was great and tried her best.
The food was meh at best. The gnocchi was under done, and waaaaaay too much sauce on the plate with no fresh bread given to help soak it up. The salad was wilted, and the dressing HOLY BLASAMIC lacking salt and enough oil to balance it out.
The taste and presentation of the food was lackluster enough that we didn't stay for dessert and opted to walk a couple blocks to the gelato joint down the way.
The final note here is the atmosphere... this is supposed to be a prohibition joint.... where's the mystery? Where is the smokey jazz playing in the background? Where is the feeling the cops could bust in at any moment send us all to the clink?.... The chintzy little red fedoras.... lame attempt to theme the place and a massive failure at it.
If you're in Sheboygen, skip this place. If you want a prohibition or more fun place, youre far better off scooting down to Safehouse in Milwaukee.
Yeah, we will never be returning, there was ,ero redeeming qualities here. If your 'crust' is the big draw, then you are a pizza place and nothing more. Quit pretending to be more than that, it does your establishment a great disservice. Dump the silly red hats and say that you're a pizza joint, not some sort of destination hot spot... because you sure as...
Read moreHarry’s is situated right on the water of the Sheboygan river, so sitting outside on their patio is a must! But if you opt for inside, it’s a cozy Italian restaurant feel inside. The wait staff was very accommodating. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table outside, so we sat at the bar and had a drink while we waited. They have a great selection of beers on tap at the bar as well as wines and harder spirits. They offer pizza, calzones, pasta, and salads. Unfortunately they have no gluten-free options listed on their menu. I asked the bar tender if they had any, and was told “we used to, but we’re out right now.” Or something to that effect. This was disappointing for my wife who is gluten intolerant, so she could only choose from the salads. The salads all come served on what is basically a pizza crust on the bottom. So she of course ate only the salad itself. Once seated the waitress came quickly to take orders. All the pizzas are 12 inch, personal size. I got a sausage pizza. There was a lot of dough, but sadly not a lot of toppings. What was there, was very tasty. The sausage was very finely ground and the sauce was tangy and good. The center of the pizza, however, was soft and limp instead of being crispy, which indicated that it perhaps should have been cooked a little bit longer. My daughter in law got chicken and gnocchi pasta, which had a rich, delicious cream sauce with a wonderful garlic and onion flavor and included sun dried tomatoes. This was by far the best meal at our table. All in all, the food was slightly disappointing - especially that there were no...
Read moreThe experience was not the most pleasant. Myself, my wife and a family friend were seated outside on the patio. Once sitting down, I purchased a round of drinks, appetizer for the table and placed our 3 dinner orders.
Unfortunately I found an insect in my dish shortly after its arrival, it had obviously flown in and died in either the process of making it or during the trip to the table from the kitchen, as it was dead and covered in the meal's sauce.
After discovering this after a few bites in and it floated to the top of the sauce and hit my fork, my appetite was lost. I informed the wait staff and they promptly took the higher end priced dish away. Later, after paying like, I decided to review my receipt and found they only discounted 1/3rd of that specific dish.
I passed it off as a simple mistake that an insect was in the dish and additionally marked it up to perhaps the lack of authority on the wait staff ability to discount past a certain percentage on a more expensive meal item.
However, judging from other patrons' reviews and their subsequent replies from the location- I have to say I'mm not surprised when my wife was told "you should have been eating inside, not outside,," by the 'owner' when she left her honest review here on Google.
This is incredibly poor form and regardless of how the fly wound up in the dish, I cannot say I've ever seen customers be seated by a restaurant and then had the management/owner attempt to place blame back on said customers when all that would have been necessary was a basic apology and a willingness to "make it right"...
