Was really looking forward to trying this place after several people have said how amazing it was. Upon walking in, the restaurant was quite large and had a open kitchen. Note to self, do not wash your hair before you go because you will leave smelling like restaurant. After being seated, about 10 minutes later, I started looking around for a waitress. We didn’t even have waters. I caught the glance of another waitress and she whispered with three other girls. Finally, a waitress came and asked us what we would like to drink and brought out waters. My husband ordered an omelette which he said was great and very filling. I on the other hand wanted a simple breakfast of eggs and cheese, turkey sausage, and potatoes. They have an item on the menu for eggs, meat and hashbrowns. I might be in the wrong, but I asked the waitress for turkey sausage instead of pork and she said OK. I then asked her what kind of hashbrowns they offered and she said shredded or diced, and I opted in for the diced.
My eggs were cooked really well, but I wasn’t sure if those were only two or three eggs because it was a very small portion. My potatoes were half the plate which I thought was way too much. The sausage seemed dry on one of the patties and the other was better than the first piece I ate. The grits we ordered were also watered down and not thick.
Upon getting our bill, I was shocked for the significant up charge for both of these items. Not once was this mentioned by the waitress that there was going to be an up charge for the turkey sausage or the diced potatoes. So I was definitely taken aback. Paying $16 for a very simple breakfast is diabolical and I would’ve rather gone elsewhere if I knew this was the situation. The QR code on the receipt doesn’t work as I thought this was mobile pay. We went up to the register to pay and I asked her. I didn’t realize there was an up charge and she didn’t apologize. I don’t blame her because she is probably a teenager, but this needs to be communicated. I could’ve gone up the street to a different brunch place and gotten more food for that amount of money. Needless to say, we most likely will not be back.
They do also charge for credit card transactions vs cash transactions… I don’t recall seeing it on the menu, but I also wasn’t...
Read moreService- 8:57am arrived hostess / waitress just looked at me, no hello. I let her know there’d be 4 of us. 9:15 I got up to go look for someone to come to our table. 9:18 waitress came by for the first time 9:35 waitress came by to tell us it would be another 10 min (they forgot about us again) 9:46am 3 of the 4 dishes arrived 49 minutes after arriving and she forgot to bring syrup for the pancakes. 4th dish arrived 4 minutes after the first 3. 10:04 she stopped by to check on us and I asked for the check.
Food- 3 adults and 1 child $45. I had the Greek skillet ordered eggs medium. Eggs were done easy and something tasted off, wasn’t sure if it was the tzatziki or the meat but I felt sick after.
Atmosphere- Dirty floors, menus that had tape and stickers over the previous print because it was probably cheaper than reprinting with their new name maybe?
Being short staffed is no excuse. There’s just a total lack of structure and missing management. The had waitress switching taking turns seating people as hostess. I noticed the table next to us sat down at 9:12, ordered food at 9:15 and got there food at 9:22.
I would not eat here again if the food was free. I would not eat here if they paid...
Read moreHonestly a very solid experience over all. A must try for any brunch spot. My partner and I came here for breakfast recently and we were pleasantly surprised by everything. the layout of the resturant was very welcoming, staff was very friendly, attentive and patient with us (we came in an hour before closing on a Sunday and took a while to order). The overall experience was just amazing. I order the spinach & feta omelet and shared some chicken and waffles with my partner. The portions were very generous and they didn’t miss a beat on anything. The omelet was stuffed and flavorful, the waffles were thick and fluffy, the chicken was crispy and tender, plus it was served with warm syrup. And the prices were more than fair. Honestly If I’m nit picking, maybe the hash browns could’ve been cooked a little bit lighter, but they were more than enjoyable. I will absolutely be coming back, there’s clearly a great team behind it, S&J’s Cafe is truly...
