I’m someone who usually focuses on the positives and loves giving compliments—but I feel it’s important to share an honest experience from our visit last night. I first visited Painting with a Twist in Shelby Township about a year ago as a guest and had such a great time that I decided to host a birthday party there for a friend.
The place itself is awesome, and I still believe it’s a fun and creative spot to celebrate. However, the instructor we had this time made the experience less enjoyable than it should have been. She seemed very unwelcoming from the start, like she didn’t really want to be there or engage with the group. The atmosphere felt flat and a bit awkward—almost as if we were interrupting her evening.
She spent most of the session painting on her own rather than guiding us step-by-step like we expected. What made it more frustrating was that she kept turning off the music, which really affected the energy of our celebration.
I still recommend the studio because the concept is great and my first visit was truly enjoyable. But for private events, it might be worth asking in advance who your instructor will be—because the right coach really makes all the difference in creating a fun and...
Read moreI think Painting With A Twist is great. It seems a bit daunting at first but the instructor really breaks it down. It doesn't feel like you're expected to create a perfect masterpiece, but you're still encouraged to step outside of your comfort zone (unless you're actually a painter). They walk you through each step & give you time to work on that part. They walk around and engage. And I was even told they offer a day to come back and complete or touch up projects. Add drinking to it? Everyone wins haha. My only thing is that this particular location said it sells beer and wine on their website, but when I brought my own beer they told me I couldn't drink it there. They did offer to hang onto it for me until after class, which was nice. Luckily someone brought me some wine but they should be a little more clear about that. If you can only drink the beer they sell, it should state that to avoid people thinking beer is acceptable to bring instead of wine. This location also played games throughout and handed out small prizes to the winner. I've been to the ferndale location and don't recall that being a thing. I've only enocuntered...
Read morePeople may wonder what the difference is between one location and another, but I have to agree with one of the reviews I see here that the atmosphere in the Shelby Twp location is awesome. After all, we go to these painting parties to have a fun night and if the people at the desk or the artists are anything other than friendly and personal with you it can ruin the whole thing. But all the people at the Shelby twp Painting with a twist are great! They make you feel right at home and just add to a fun night overall! I have been to other locations where the people are okay, but the Shelby one is just a much more fun vibe. If you want a great painting party, I highly recommend the Shelby...
