We’ve been here twice now, once for dinner and once for lunch. The interior is nice and clean. Plenty of tvs around the place all tuned to different sports. When we went for dinner on a Saturday night, it was LOUD in there, we had a hard time talking to each other at our table. It was more like being in a crowded bar at that point.
When we went for lunch, we had a couple of issues. There was no hostess and the waitresses were taking turns seating people as they walked in. We had to wait a few minutes before anyone noticed us. While we were eating, I saw people waiting at the hostess stand and it took them a while to be sat. At least one group turned around and left because they were never acknowledged.
When we were seated, our waitress was friendly and attentive. After we ordered and received our food, she was less attentive. We sat for at least 10 minutes after we were done eating waiting for her to come to our table to get boxes and our bill. When she finally stopped by, she said she had been sat a large group and apologized. She brought us boxes and asked us if we wanted the bill. It took her another 10 minutes to bring us the bill, I had my credit card in hand, took a quick glance at the bill, and she had already left without a word. We sat there for another 10 minutes with our credit card with the bill before she sailed by our table with plates of food saying, “sooorrryyy!!” She grabbed the bill on her way back to the kitchen, and when she brought it back for me to sign, she set it on the table and left. No thank you, no have a nice day, nothing.
I understand being busy and having to spend time with other tables, but she basically abandoned us after she got her large group and neglected to give us even basic courtesy after that.
On to the food…
We ordered the onion rings to start and they were delicious! Puffy beer batter coated large rings and they were hot but not dripping in grease. The sauce they serve with them was really good, but even just plain ketchup was good with these.
We also got the giant soft pretzel when we were there for dinner, and that thing is massive! It was the size of a steering wheel! We ate a decent amount but still had most of the pretzel to take home. All the dips they give you with the pretzel are great too, I just wish they gave you more of them than little cups of dip for such a big pretzel.
The hand battered boneless wings were huge! We got 6 of them and it was a lot, like three large chicken tenders. I think it’s the same batter they use for the onion rings, or at least similar because it was puffy and crispy and delicious.
The twisted mac was pretty good, but I was a little disappointed. It is not very cheesy, there is no cheese sauce and no cheese pull, instead it was kind of dry and crumbly. There were some sort of bread crumbs in it or on it that added to the dry, crumbliness of it. The jalapeño slices are plentiful but not too spicy. With the bacon and jalapeños, the mac has almost a jalapeño popper flavor to it. I added chicken to it, and they dice up small cubes of chicken and mix it in, I’m not entirely sure it’s worth it to add the chicken to it.
I love the fact that they make almost everything on their menu in house and they have a decent beer and drink selection. They also have a Pokémon gym at their location! These are all pluses for us, but after my last experience there, I’m not sure if I...
Read moreTook my daughter out for dinner and thought we might try this place out. I was especially curious because my friends and I have been anticipating it's re-opening and I wanted to let them know if we should bother checking it out as a group.
First, we were seated (by an unfriendly hostess) and after about 10 minutes without having anyone come by to greet us or even acknowledge us, we were getting ready to leave when someone asked if we has been helped. After responding with no, there seemed to be some confusion with their team on who should've been assigned our table but, regardless, a new server came by and let us know he was taking over for someone we never met in the first place.
After looking over the menu, I noticed that a lot of their dishes included root beer and thought it sounded good for a drink. However, it was shocking that the server didn't know if they had any and, in fact, it was apparent a bunch of servers were discussing the question a few feet away. After waiting a while, our server returned to our table and I was told they don't have root beer... what they cook with just resembles root beer. Uhhh... so water was my choice.
After looking over the menu, I decided on ordering the corn flake crusted fish and chips. Except that when it arrived, it was actually mushy, frozen beer battered fish. The side of French onion soup was also pretty bland and without much flavor. I was disappointed with both food items.
My daughter ordered a California club. It was dry and it was served with an overcooked egg and wilted lettuce.
I bought this up to the server, who was actually really attentive and helpful, who apologized for not noticing and said he'd bring it up to the kitchen/manager. That was great except we weren't given any explanation for our concerns - just a "Sorry about that."
Needless to say, my daughter and I are both very disappointed and neither of us would...
Read moreThe ole Packard Diner got a total revamp in an AWESOME way! Now the Tap & Barrel Grill this place has impressed in all areas, first the decor and outdoor patio are phenomenal(the back window/sliding doors open nicely to the patio(weather permitting of course) there are booths, tall top tables and low top tables, the back right corner is a small stage for live music(mostly on Friday or Saturday's) or a DJ set up. The bar wraps from the side of the entrance to all the way to the back of the house, nicely stocked, and a awesome beer menu that's always rotating jus to keep you interested! Now the food! I've been there on 3 occasions I've had the pecan chicken salad which is crunchy but tender chicken on a bed of greens, onion soup that I couldn't get enough off(I get it everytime now) to a fish sandwich that even surprised this foodie snob! The fish sandwich was two pieces of cod battered the flash fried, the taste was phenomenal, crunchy exterior to a creamy never fishy inside that has me dreaming for more(btw this sandwich is HUGE) it's very filling and comes with a choice of sides(I had sweet potato fries). Next the pizza was fluffy with a crispy bottom, the Asparagus on the Starter Menu was a nice surprise, crispy on the outside, nicely seasoned with a tender inside. Last but never the least the DRINKS, made to order extra chilled(I enjoy an icy Cosmo) with a large array of choices I'm sure you'll find a drink that'll soon become a favorite, suggestion here try the Green Tea shots you won't know how tipsy you've gotten till you try to get up! They're Delicious! But everything is thus far! They're still in their "soft opening" stage so please pay them a visit, make sum new friends and have a yummy meal, heck catch a game on...
