Kwong Tung Chop Suey — Restaurant in Shelby Charter Township

Today is my last time going to this restaurant that my family and I have been going to since I was a kid. The last few times we ordered takeout the food quality has gone legitimately downhill and today I have received the worst service I’ve ever had at any restaurant.

My wife and I jokingly talked about starting a tradition of ordering Chinese food for Christmas as our kids are finally expanding their horizons when it comes to eating out.

The last few times we ordered here, we ordered over the phone and it seems like we get the person on the phone that is in a rush to get you off the phone and seems to omit things from our order. This time we decided to try their online ordering system as we can ensure our order is correct before it is sent. After we completed the order we got a confirmation saying it would be ready in 20 minutes. I get in the car and drive over. I show up and they asked for my number to pay for the order. Turns out my order never made it to their system.. 😒😒😒

Well I am already here and ended up placing my order again and paid for it in full. They said it would be 15 minutes. After waiting for a while, a few people that came and ordered at the restaurant after me got their food before me. Then the disorganized cashier told me my order is here, this was about 30 minutes after I ordered. I decided to double check it and it turned out it wasn’t what I ordered at all. At this time I am frustrated and said “where is my food? I have been waiting for over 30 minutes. And not to mention that this is my second order because my first one went missing”. The disorganized cashier’s response was “Well that’s not our fault, it’s a glitch in the system”. My response, “Still waited over 30 minutes since I placed the second order and an hour since I placed the first one.” Her response, “It is not our fault and your food will be coming soon.”

Waited about 10 minutes more with an older lady saying this is my food and told the cashier to give me my money back. Checked the order again and said this isn’t my order as well. After repeating what my order should be the lady ran back to go get it. The cashier realizing she refunded the wrong order went to look for my ticket, which I assumed was to refund me the right amount. Then another person came and asked what I ordered again, which I repeated again. Then the cook comes running with another order and said “this one is you with the sweet and sour shrimp.” My response, “Incorrect! I am allergic to shrimp and would never order it.” Then I had to repeat my order a fourth time to this new lady. She starts scrambling and eventually finds my order in the other room. This one is finally correct yay! She then grabs a calculator and says the total and I said I already paid but was told I am getting my money back. The cashier who has money on the counter from when she was figuring out what to return now claims that I am not getting my money back... which we started a back and forth exchange that was literally going nowhere. Finally, just grabbed my food and said “I am never coming back here again as the customer service and food quality has gone down hill and left.

Finally, make it home.. the food order was correct but was extremely cold as if it was sitting around for over an hour.

Never again...

This is my first time coming to this restaurant. I was in the area and thought I would give it a try. I was very impressed with the lobby area. It is large and spacious and has been sitting while you’re waiting for your carry out.

The owner was very friendly and helpful. And he let me know that it was newly remodeled so I took a peek at the seating area, and it looks like a nice place to come back with my friends for dine in.

I was impressed that the crab meat wonton hit real, not a small pieces of crab. So often I order these from other restaurants and it seems to be just cream cheese only they were very good and tasty and crisp.

I also like the eggrolls. Sometimes these are hit or miss at a restaurant. The wonton soup was also very flavorful and delicious again that’s hit or miss at restaurants.

I would definitely come back and try more items meeting, friends for lunch or dinner

I loved the friendliness of the owner, and how pleasant he was.

The atmosphere looked clean...

I'd give this place a ZERO Star rating if i could. I barely EVER write reviews but I went here on Monday (2) days ago and I still cant believe it. -- Horrible. Service was alright. So there is your ONE STAR you get. The food was awful. As soon as my chicken started cooling down it started getting hard.i got general chicken -- i asked for spicy. Not spicy one bit. just sugary sweet. The waitress was kind enough to bring me their pepper oil they add to make sauces spicy. I ADDED THE WHOLE BOWL -- tasted the same. My moms teriyaki chicken tasted flavorless. -- it was a gravy that tasted like flour and nothing else. My Lo Mein noodles were hard and cold. I cannot even express enough how much i Dont want YOU to go here, thats how bad it was. Even the egg rolls had a funny taste to them. And forget the ragoons, there is so much garlic in them they dont even taste like ragoons.
