OverTime Sports Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Shelby

Upon entering, my wife and I waited on a hostess for seating. We were offered a table in the middle of the room, which we declined, as there were more empty tables near the window. After being asked about another table a little farther down, still towards the middle, directly across the aisle, again, in the middle...We asked as we pointed, how about over there, along the wall. My wife ordered sweet tea, I ordered a draft. After looking at the menu, the wife said the tea was good, still waiting on the bartender to get my drink. I ordered the smoked wings, with Carolina sauce, and waffle fries. The wife ordered the 12 oz ribeye and baked potato with a salad.

The waffle fries had warmth in areas, scary bland, with some reddish sprinkles here and there, did nothing for the flavor at all. I even asked my wife to try one, she said it didn't have any taste and wasn't very warm at all to just be brought out. The "smoked" wings, which I was eager for her to try... was a huge disappointment ! Maybe the Carolina sauce I ordered would have helped them but I didn't receive any to try. The wings appeared to be boiled and then finished in the oven, as the meat had a different consistency or texture that immediately brought to my mind "boiled meat" and extremely bland. Zero smoke flavor at all & dry. I immediately asked the wife to try one and describe the taste. She said it was bland and agreed with me it definitely resembled a boiled and finished in the oven look. She then asked me to help her cut her steak... I don't know when I have had so much trouble, it was definitely tough, had a nice pink middle, it was just tough with visible gristle. She commented her salad and baked potato was really good but then noted how much pepper and additional seasonings was on top of the steak. It was a lot. I ordered 10 wings, maybe ate 3 of them and about the same amount of waffle fries. My wife ate the salad but sadly had to save the rest of the steak, way over half, for the dog. The waitress was sweet, new and young, as she asked how it was as she noticed hardly any was eaten and we were ready to pay our bill. She was really surprised and said everyone loved the wings, as I told her that I detected zero smoke flavor or anything much more either. She asked if we would like to talk to the owner as my wife and I kinda looked at each other and agreed that someone should take notes and be made aware of this. I told the waitress, I would want to know if this was my business.

We waited, no manager, no owner came to talk. When she came back so I could pay, she was shocked that the owner hadn't came and talked with us. I said no manager, no owner came to speak with us. I assured her that she did a good job and it was no reflection on her.

I realize we arrived at 8:00 on a Sunday night but I wanted to try this spot and even turned around from going to another popular restaurant right down the street, one we visit frequently. I really wanted to like this place, I wanted something good to eat & the same for my wife. Over $60.00 plus tip for our meal, so, $80.00. I could go to Food Lion buy wings and a ribeye and cook ten times better steak and chicken wings, on a grill at a park, than we had there.

I even gave myself a whole day to cool down before coming to let others know to skip on down the road and spend your hard earned money on a place that cares. Where at least you can talk to a manager or an owner that actually cares to hear what you might have to say. It wasn't busy, even if I was, this was a shame. Perhaps if I had taken time to read the recent reviews, we would have just avoided this altogether.

I don't know when I have left hungry after paying what I did, with nobody seeming to care. I definitely will...

A FYI and announcement to all fellow MC community, supporters and other bikers. Tonight we were enjoying a quiet dinner with my parents for my dad’s birthday. We had been there well over an hour. Ordering drinks, appetizers and meals for all of us. We were seated with no issue wearing our vest with our club patches on it. We were served our drinks, our appetizers our meals with no issue wearing our vest. Then AFTER paying our check and sitting and talking with my dad the owner/manager comes up and tells us we have to leave because we have our vest on. She tells us “soft” colors are ok but hard colors are not. So we ask her the difference because in reality especially in the MC world there isn’t a difference and all she could tell us is that we can’t be in there and need to leave. Also keep in mind no where is this posted around the restaurant that it isnt allowed. it isn’t as if we were loud or obnoxious or making a scene we were simply having dinner and sitting quietly having conversation. Then after we left she decides to follow us and my family out and watch us as we stand talking on the sidewalk since we were asked to leave the establishment. Meanwhile there is a group whooping and hollering and smoking pot outside but that’s ok, it was us sitting quietly having a birthday dinner with our family that was causing the problem not them. So just know if you are a biker, a supporter, a patch member or anything in between you ARE NOT welcome at Overtime Sports Bar and Grille in Shelby,NC.

Best friend and I have been there often but last night (9/27/25) topped it all… we were seated quickly and drinks served promptly. We requested a tv close by be put on the Atlanta Braves game. Yes it was Saturday night and there were tons of TVs with college football games to watch. Pattie made every attempt to get the tv closest to us on the baseball game but the channel was not available. She don’t give up!!! She did get the game for us on another larger tv that included the needed cable channel. No one else was watching that tv (she asked several tables). We were happy and enjoyed the game and dinner. Apparently, a patron who came in later felt the college football game should be on the larger tv… your game was on several other tvs of various sizes. I am sorry your wish was not granted due to cable providers and apparently your evening was ruined. Btw… our waitress was spot on and never missed a beat checking on us. Love the atmosphere and food ain’t bad… sometimes a little spicy for my taste but I will still go back… maybe today! Thanks to all the staff working there in all capacities… friendly, focused, and not...
