Waffle Houses are pretty bad in general, but this one reaches a new level of bizarre and awful.
Sitting down our booth was sticky, with plastic placemat menus that clearly get manhandled by every customer coming through, but never cleaned. One thing missing from our table - silverware. I ended up having to ask for it after our food arrived and the server brought it out and arranged it on our napkins like we were little kids. It was uncomfortable and really unusual. Why can't you roll the silver in a napkin and have it on the table like every other decent place does?
And the food...the eggs tasted really weird, the bacon was burned on one side and raw on the other, my waffle had burned black spots on both sides from a dirty waffle iron, and my cup was filthy.
This really makes no sense because there were at least 10 people working in this place, all stepping over each other in the kitchen, with one random "hostess" who's sole job seemed to be to open the door for you, then get in your way. The general feel of the place was 100% southern white trash redneck as the manager began berating her young staff with "NO ONE LEAVES THE KITCHEN UNLESS I SAY SO."
I left accepting the fact that I would soon be getting sick, either from the terribly prepared food, the sticky, germy table, or simply the memory that I ate at such a place. Never,...
Read moreWhew boy! I know it's a Waffle House, so my expectations going into one are bare minimum. I just want hot breakfast food and coffee while I listen to the service staff interact and watch the food being prepared. I'm easy to please. Ordered the All Star special, and it was good. I didn't get to eat the waffle, however, because I was never given syrup (they were cleaning the store in preparation for an inspection, so they were a little too tied up to take care of me I guess). Nobody ever checked to see if I needed a refill. Then the manager starts shifting and cleaning ceiling tiles DIRECTLY ABOVE ME, so I'd had enough at that point. Service staff complained about their jobs and the way they were treated there, apparently a girl had a funeral to attend and was told by mgmt they didn't want to hear excuses. That made me sad for her; that isn't fair, and nobody should be made to feel that way at their workplace. So between the cleaning right above my food and the stories of mistreatment at the hands of leadership, it's clear nobody cares about anybody there. The girl who served me was great, besides leaving me thirsty once I got my food. And her coworkers were pleasant, but the overall experience was not. I'll drive a little further to IHOP next time I want breakfast in Shelby,...
Read moreSo this is my second time here. The guy on the grill does not practice sanitation AT ALL. Pulling raw bacon out with his hands and then going to put butter on someone’s toast with the same hands WITHOUT WASHING THEM! This happened the last time I visited as well and I cancelled my order and told them why. Well tonight it was the same thing and the same man was working so I let him and the ladies know when he gets to my food please wear gloves and he did however the food was nasty and did not taste like other Waffle Houses I’ve been to. The hash browns to be exact was very mushy…..on top of all this he and was very rude to the older lady working and him and her were going back and forth the whole time it was very messy in there literally they did not hold back. It was VERY unprofessional and irritating. The other lady was very mellow and polite and she offered to fix my order but I just gave it back and I accepted a waffle. Never coming back and I suggest corporate has a team come and get this Waffle House under control all of the cross contamination going on I can smell a lawsuit. I won’t be back to this location unless some changes are made I’ll rather take the drive...
