We had the privilege of eating at the Open Range Bar & Grill over the New Year's weekend while staying at the Sheridan Inn Hotel.
We had supper there on Saturday evening. It was a very light crowd and the service was exceptional. The food itself was very well done. Our server was Mardel. I want to take a moment and talk about being exceptional.
Mardel was a very humble, soft-spoken, gracious, sincere and genuine individual. This is something of very rare quality in this day and time. We were honored to have been served by her. So honored in fact, that we set reservations for the following evening and requested her as our server. We insisted on it. To be seated in her section.
Sunday evening, 7:30pm - the restaurant was bustling with business and we had to wait for a table. No problem. Mardel came for us at the bar herself and took us to our table. Everyone working was busy and we were patient knowing what the situation was. There were only 2 of us, but most tables had 4 or more.
We gave her our order and she was back with our drinks and appetizers in a reasonable amount of time. It was the dinner order that caused problems. But not with Mardel.
The kitchen wasn't prepared for steak orders and mine was problematic for them. They had to thaw it out and prepare it. We arrived at the restaurant on time. Our order went back between 8:00-8:30 and we didn't see the steak until approximately 9:30. My wife got her order when I got mine by her choice. Mardel had asked if she wanted hers earlier and she said she would wait.
All in all, even with the steak issue, the service was OUTSTANDING. Mardel is an exceptional individual. The restaurant would do well to have her train other servers so that they can experience what professional, sincere, genuine service looks like. Servers don't come any better than this and I have traveled most of these 50 states. She would rank as the best of the best!
To the manager - you have a rare jewel in your midst sir. I hope you recognize it. If we choose to eat there again, it will be because of Mardel foremost, but the quality of the food will rate a tight 2nd.

Read more2 weeks ago I called and asked if the restaurant was open at night on Mother's Day, May 14 2017. The girl that answered said yes. I asked how late they were open, she said 'til 8 unless they start summer hrs. She said they were having a buffet. I told her I knew that would be during the day but we were coming at night as our relatives were coming through on a bus tour from England and would only be here that night. She said they were open so I made the reservation for 5:30 for 9 people. She took my name and phone number, I thought we were good. My Mom is on oxygen and uses a walker so they arrived early with my sister and her husband. When they arrived the door was closed. My sister went to the main lobby where she was informed that the restaurant was closed and wanted to know who took the reservation. I seriously did not think I needed to write that down! So after frantically calling around as I was supposed to pick up the English relatives in 20 minutes, my sister got a reservation at 6:10 at the Rib and Chop house. All meals now come with starch and veggie with a nominal increase in price(used to be a la carte) . All 4 of us had something different - appetizer, dinner and dessert - all fantastic. Food is good but overpriced - we’ve been there 4 times and only once did not have a problem. $38 for a portion of buffalo short ribs and nothing with it is a ridiculous price. Menu is limited and hasn’t really changed since opening day - as a local , yes it’s our best restaurant, (which, sadly, isn’t saying much, but the price is a bit over the top - not sure I’ll go back.
3/28- I responded to the request to call or email on 3/24 and have yet to hear back . Poor customer service .
12/2024 - never received a response - that reflects that the response they gave me was pure lip service - pretending they care...
