Been wanting to try this place for a while. The aesthetics are awesome, cozy environment. Great book selection. But I am really disappointed in the service and the coffee. I ordered a fireside latte, with oatmilk (which costs extra). My order was $7 and I tipped $2 preemptively, as I always like to support the staff. The person who took my order really talked up the quality of the coffee, and also informed me they were out of whole milk (which is partly why I opted for oat milk instead). There was no one ahead of me so expected to get my coffee fairly quick and go back on my errands. It took a lot longer than expected due to the fact the barista was having a long and involved chat with a friend, at the expense of service. By the time I got my order I was ready to get out of there because the wait (again for no other reason other than chit chat) left a bad taste in my mouth. But what really left a bad taste in my mouth was the coffee. Only when I got to my car and had my first sip did I realize it was skim milk they gave me…after I ordered and paid extra for oatmilk to avoid the skim milk option. Also pretty sure it was drip coffee and not espresso, very weak tasting. I can appreciate that the staff feel at home at work, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of professionalism. The barista should’ve taken a break to talk to their friend (it was a very personal conversation btw). Now it feels like I wasted $9 on an experience I thought would be great but was...
Read moreMonday, March 10th, popped into the White Rabbit around 9AM after I dropped my grandaughter off at an art camp at Pickles and Pottery on Houston Street. The coffee house is a couple doors down. The shop is located on the second floor, however there is an elevator. Oh wow! Was impressed. There are of course, tables and chairs, but also some really comfy looking chairs and sofa with coffee tables. The back wall is covered with shelves to the top loaded with books and games. I plopped down on one of the comfy chairs and gazed outside the large window at the sunlit downtown streets. I felt so relaxed. It was almost like being at home. The choice for breakfast is all kinds of enticing coffees, bagels, burritos and breakfast tacos. I ordered a bagel with strawberry cream cheese that you see in the picture with a cup of coffee for 7 dollars. The coffee was perfect. The bagel is all naturally products made and cream were delicious. Sandwiches and various soups are on the menu for lunch. There are cookies and various protein type bars also for sale as well as White Rabbit merchandise. The folks are very friendly and while in there you feel no sense of urgency and no one was in a hurry. People came in placed their orders and calmly sat down and waited. I even struck up a conversation. I will be back. Really difficult for me to find regular black coffee that is good and they had the best. The hrs are 7 :30 to 2, but doublecheck.
Great place...
Read moreI came today, atmosphere was really cool, love the little Knick knacks. Luckily my friend had been in before and knew where the menus were. I’m big on espresso as I’m originally from washington and was a barista so I had ordered two drinks. When I had asked for a cortado the person taking the order was a little abrasive, asking if I had ever had one. When I was trying to order the second latte I couldn’t remember the name of the drink but it was the seasonal with the fall syrup. Once again the person taking my order was almost dismissive. We eventually figured out what it was though, when I then tried to get a macaroon I was told that they didn’t know which one was the correct one, which was fine I told them I would eat it regardless. Generally speaking I think this is a really cool spot and the latte was phenomenal. I also get sometimes it’s an off day service wise. However, I think that the way that the interactions went have room for improvement. Regardless of that I would be back for the fall...
