Bamboo Hibachi Sherwood — Restaurant in Sherwood

May 2024: Okay, this was a very hard review. It's a hole in the wall place, so you don't expect much from the atmosphere. And you don't get much. Service is nice, friendly, no problems. About what you expect from a little mom and pop place.

Onto the important stuff the food! Holy smokes! The sushi is good! We had the dynamite roll, and the goldfish roll.

Dynamite roll: it was dynamite! Flavor exploded in your mouth, and you wish you had a bigger mouth so you could fit more than one in at a time! It was excellent. The sushi had better flavor than some of the expensive places around that I've had lately. It seems like a lot of places have lost a lot of flavor, and this place picked it up. Wonderful!

Goldfish roll: wow, I couldn't believe it, this is actually better than the dynamite role! Who would have thought jalapeno on a sushi roll? This gave a heat and flavor that was just phenomenal! I could not believe it. I have been so disappointed in the sushi places around lately, that this was a very welcome surprise. So freaking good! Thank you thank you thank you. If this had been the end of the review, regardless of atmosphere, it would have been five stars all the way!

Chicken teriyaki: So disappointing, after the sushi, My expectations were high. However, salt is supposed to be a accent flavor, not the main flavor. I'm not sure I could taste the teriyaki over the salt. Other than the overuse of salt, it was basic. It had good texture, and a good cook to it, but the flavor was something out of a grocery store freezer section. Not bad, just If I wanted that flavor, I would have microwaved it at home.

Hibachi vegetables: okay flavor but again, somebody sure loves their salt. My wife is Spanish and loves her salt, and it was too salty for her, and that is saying something.

Rice noodle: another bland disappointment. It definitely had enough salt, but the flavor just bland. Maybe the salt was just so overpowering you couldn't get the actual flavor, but severe disappointment.

All that being said, I will be going back. I will probably make a meal out of their sushi. I may give their food another try, maybe they're cook was having a bad day and knock the top of the salt off, but if it was just their food, I would not be going back. However, I will be going back for their sushi, again, again, and again. As far as the area goes, I think I have found my new favorite sushi. The goldfish roll is I believe it's my favorite in the Central Arkansas area.

My restaurant interpretation of the 5🌟 rating system (feel free to use):

I started using this because I don't like seeing standard restaurants with 5🌟. If I see 5🌟 I expect more than standard. Also adjusted for type of business. Sit down restaurants are skewed and critiqued accordingly in comparison to fast food. My wife kept getting on to me for being too critical.

1🌟 = DUMP…. NEVER AGAIN I DON'T CARE IF IT IS FREE (wish there was a no star option). The food you would feed a prisoner, only if you didn’t like them. 2🌟 = Crap, fast food...... Only for If you are in a hurry, tight on $, and/or in a rush. (Think big chain places with $1 menu, not HORRIABLE, and sometimes a decent food comes out). 3🌟 = Okay, worth going on a regular, but has room to improve (Think frequent work lunch spot, Rarely less than Okay, usually Good to really good food) 4🌟 = Very good, favorite "common" places. Nothing EXCEPTIONAL. (Think casual date, Nicer Chain restaurants usually, occasional surprisingly good Fast food) 5🌟 = Reserved for EXTREMELY high quality and/or Exceptional, and  Places that surprise me. (Think first date to impress, anniversary, special occasion) GREAT flavor, great food, ambiance,...

First update your Google hours. I pulled up today around 3ish and you were closed. I sat in the parking lot talking to myself about how your hours online said open and trying to read the hours on the door but couldn’t because I didn’t have my glasses on. It was too hot to get out of the car to take a closer look so after crying and fussing I left. I attempted to speed off out of rage but Sherwood PD was posted on the corner so 25 mph I went! 🤭

Clearly I need to get my life together.

The chicken katsu is amazing. It’s crispy and fried to perfection. The fried rice is tasty and has sort of a chargrilled taste to it which I love.

Now the eggrolls!! Are these battered then fried?!? Delicious!

I enjoy the bang bang shrimp but I need you guys to go light on the sauce. Someone got too sauce-happy on my last order and added too much. I ate them lol but they were too saucy.

Service was the best I’ve ever gotten from Anywhere! Person on the phone was polite & double checked to make sure they got my order correct, told me to give them 10-15 minutes. I went in and the person confirmed for a third time that my order was correct! Which I really really appreciate. Got the food home, I live a little less than 15 minutes away, and food was still very hot! The onion soup was some of the best I’ve ever had!! The rest of the food was very fresh & delicious! I didn’t want to stop eating, but had to, because they gave me so much. I ordered 2 egg rolls, 2 onion soups, chicken & steak hibachi, and salmon hibachi.
