I've been to the Shippensburg Select maybe 2 or 3 times. And each experience has felt rushed. Perhaps it's because I come on a weekend day, but I don't enjoy being crammed into a crowded restaurant, wait an exceptional amount of time for food and get asked 3 times how I'm doing and wondering when I'll be leaving.
I ordered the select special which comes with 2 eggs, 2 bacon 2 pancakes or french toast. Unlike that of the walnut bottom diner in Carlisle, Green Village Diner in Chambersburg, and the Chambersburg diner - it's pretty sparse on the entree. The other 3 diners which I mentioned include a side of toast and home fries. While they charge maybe $4 or $5 more, I like having the variety in a special. Here you can get a cheaper meal without that, but I think you will find it to feel small in the American mindset.
Now, to the food itself. The taste is bland. I had to saturate my home fries with more salt (which I wish I wouldn't have to), and pancakes with more syrup. It was like eating dough without butter or syrup or just lukewarm potatoes that someone left in the water for a bit of time. The eggs were on point (got them overeasy). But I don't like them on the same plate as my pancakes. Cross contamination is no fun.
Now back to the service. I think I was seated for 5 mins before I was helped which I think is pretty standard (maybe?). But I don't time these things cause I'm not a food critic, even if I sound like one. Needless to say, my waitress did an excellent job in getting the order right. But as I stated before I felt ... Rushed. In between eating, there were moments I was using my phone because I was dining alone, but every time she came by I was on my phone. It felt like I was being rushed to eat. Whereas I know there were others there longer than me.
Long story short, if you aren't a breakfast connoisseur like myself and are cost efficient, this is likely your place to dine. The rate is reasonable during this inflation and the food + service gets a passing grade from...
Read moreI'm going to first off say when we walked into the diner my wife and I thought it was cute. A family was eating some lunch and couple losers guys where eating and talking and my wife and I thought it just had the diner atmosphere.
We sat down and the waitress took our drink order and we looked at the menu which had A LOT of options and my wife decided on the gyro and I decided on the Mediterranean burger. Once we ordered we waited for about 15-20 minutes for our food. (The service was VERY slow, we had to ask couple times for items and the table next to use waited about 10 minutes for the check and they finally just got up and walked to the front.)
Once we got out food it look interesting. My burger definitely looked like a pre-cooked burger from the freezer and my wife's also look the same. But we were very hungry and we ate it all. Once we were done we paid and went on with our day.
Now fast forward about 11 hours later, my wife and I both have food poisoning. I suspect it was from the diner and my wife agrees with me because without to much detail she was able to only see what she had this afternoon and nothing else. I hate giving one star reviews and I don't actually think I ever have done it until now. But it's not getting a one star just because of the food/sickness but also getting a one star because of the service. They were just very slow for a diner. But also getting food poisoning will definitely lower the star rating.
The price was about $19 for two of use and my wife got water and I got Pepsi and we both got the deluxe so I mean price wise it wasn't horrible especially for the amount of food you get. But since it both knocked us off our feet it's just getting a bad review from me. Wish it wasn't the...
Read moreWe were excited to find a diner open at 2 am! We came from the Penn State v Ohio game and wanted something warm in our bellies. Went in and we were asked to seat ourselves, which was fine. A long haired girl (definately a girl because she didnt act like a lady) came to take our order and it was obvious how we inturrupted her night. We get nervous in places and situations like that because those type of attitude people wont hesitate to spit in your food (I know because ive worked with the type). I ordered the Tuscan panini and the meat was so tough that i couldnt eat it. We also ordered food to go and when we asked the girl waitress if the fries were in the bag with the order, she replied "what are you talking about." As we were dining she and her co workers were cussing and being vulgar, loudly. Granted it was in between 2 am and 3am, so us beggars cant be choosers, but geese. Would have been better off going to Sheets down the street. Then right before the check the girl waitress and her co workers were talking about another restaurant that closed down because the man who owned it wanted to spend more time with his family. The started to complain about how they wanted time too, and then continued with "but what we really need is a health inspector." We were so grossed out! We literally just finished eating there!!! Nervous and grossed out, we paid our pretty high bill and left. hopefully we dont get sick in the next week. 4/10 would never....
