Redemption BBQ — Restaurant in Shippensburg

I'm not one to leave bad reviews, but this had to be the worst service and food I've had in a long time.

I've never been to redemption bbq before, and I thought that by the reviews, it would be a great place to go for a birthday lunch. I called to make reservations for Saturday. You place your order and pay before you sit at your table. I'm always skeptical of paying before you get served (in case the service is bad). I ordered the Texas tray that had a half rack of ribs, brisket, sausage, and 2 sides. My wife ordered ribs with 2 sides. The first thing that went wrong was I went to the soda fountain. I got Sprite, and it had black specs of I'm assuming mold in it. We told the server and got a new cup with sweet tea instead. When my food came out, my order was wrong they had pulled pork instead of brisket, which I wasn't going to worry with since I like both. The pulled pork tasted like it was cooked in a crock pot. The ribs were dry, and the spicy bbq sauce left a lot to be desired. My wife had her sides come out without her ribs. When the server asked if we needed anything else, we told her that we were still missing a half rack of ribs. The server said that we didn't order another rib (which is something you should never do as a server). I said to have the ribs in a to go box and paid her at the counter again. Fast forward another 10 minutes, and the server asks if we need anything. We said we were still missing our ribs, and our other guests were missing some food as well. The service was terrible, and the restaurant was only half full.

So i have to say this has been by far one of the most pure human reactions i have ever experienced. This past weekend i attended uprise 2023 and due to how expensive and small most of the portions were most of our group did not get to eat so by the end of the night all of us were starving. so i went to go check to see if i could get some food with my 3 tokens. Unfortunately nothing anyone was selling was 3 tokens so i began to walk back but then the guy in the redemption bbq food truck said he’d take any tokens. so i hesitantly walked up with my 3 tokens and asked for the 10 token nachos and the guy was so incredibly kind and explained how they were just trying to get rid of as much food as possible and since it would just go to waste. I got my practicals free nachos and walked back to my group and within seconds the nachos were gone and everyone was asking for more. so my friend and i went back this time with 4 tokens asking for another box of nachos but everyone working at the truck insisted we should get some more so they gave us 3. while waiting we had an amazing conversation with the workers, such a God driven conversation. We brought back our nachos and everyone loved them. so thanks to the redemption bbq truck guys for feeding some starving teenagers, i’ll be praying for your son and thank you for just spreading the goodness God. So fricken good!! I wish I would have taken a few pics. Located downtown Shippensburg, parking is a little scarce but worth the walk if you have to park a block away. From the outside, it looks like a bar or a pool hall, but don't be deceived all ages are welcome 😉

The menu is displayed on a large wall mounted chalkboard. The prices are ridiculously reasonable for what you get. After 10 minutes of finally deciding what we wanted because everything sounded so good, you place your order at the bar/ counter, the waitress gives you your drink cups and then you pick a table to sit at.

Most of the tables are wooden picnic tables which are great for a family. You can grab a drink from the fountain station at your leisure. Then the waiting begins for your feast. But you won't wait that long because within 10 maybe 15 min deliciousness arrives!

The ribs were fall off the bone and dripping in sauce, the sweet potatoe were steamy and melt in your mouth. The pulled pork sandwich was not one to pick up because you could not even see the bottom bun as it was hiding under a mound of tender, juicy pulled pork. The pulled pork salad was so large it takes two people to eat it! One last detail the food is brought out on individual metal serving trays.
