We went to the University Grill based upon a review on Google. Based upon that glowing review we had high expectations, however when we visited we were disappointed. We arrived on Burger Night where burgers were only $10 which is a good deal. However, it is not an exaggeration to say they may have been the worst burgers we'd ever had. The patties were seriously over cooked and nearly as hard as bricks. That said, the onion rings were outstanding, so that was some consolation. Our waitress was helpful at the beginning but after our meal arrived she pretty much disappeared for around 30 minutes. Also, be forewarned that Tuesday night is Trivia Night and that the event includes someone with a microphone and amplifier reading off questions for at least half an hour. While it provided some amusement, this made it very difficult to have a conversation with your dining partner. To add to the noise, the bar in the adjacent room was playing loud booming music the entire time. The waitress never came by to ask if we wanted refills for our drinks. When she gave us our check she overcharged us, charging us $32 for 2 burgers which should have only cost $20. After we paid the full amount my partner and I got to thinking that this was a very expensive meal and that's when we looked at the bill and caught the mistake, so we got a busboy's attention and asked for a refund of the $12 overcharge, which we received...
Read moreWill not return. 2 of us arrived and were seated in a half empty restaurant at 7pm. Drink orders were taken. Wrong beer was delivered but we drank it. Placed order for one appetizer and two burgers (on burger night). Took 30 minutes for crab dip to come out but it was delicious (it earned the one star). Took another 30 minutes after we finished the appetizer for our burgers to come out. The waitress apologized for the wait saying they were “slammed.” At this point there was only one table seated outside and four in the bar area where we were (couldn’t see other rooms….but definitely didn’t appear slammed). The fries were cold. The medium rare burger had no pink and was also cold. The manager came over, immediately very defensive and told us they were very busy (would have been nice to know when seated). After admitting that the burger was overdone he did take it off the bill…but was definitely not apologetic for the poor food or service. And, he took the cold food, which was fine, but then we had already been there for an hour and still didn’t have dinner and couldn’t wait another hour for food. We both have restaurant experience, we eat out a LOT and never complain. This is the worst experience we have had in...
Read moreI was shocked at how quaint and elegant the atmosphere of this restaurant was. My father-in-law and I had lunch here a few weeks ago, and I can still remember every detail. From the service to the food to the low lighting in the whole dining area everything about this place screams a fancy Pub, which is admittedly a hard atmosphere to succeed at, as every restaurant is usually either varying to one or the other. In either case the waitressing staff was extremely polite, and spoke quietly. The food took roughly 10 to 12 minutes to prepare, if memory serves correctly, and was delicious. Sincerely, and I know this is blasphemy to some, this place serves the best cheesesteak in Shippensburg. And believe me, I've tried them all. My father-in-law ordered the reuben and said it was good as well, which is what I plan on ordering next time I visit, which I hope is soon.
Expect to be paying a minimum $15 for a meal, which is actually on the lower end of what I was expecting for an establishment of this caliber. The pricing was as surprising as the atmosphere, in other words. Overall I absolutely adored my experience here, and recommend it to everyone who asks me. 10 out of 10, I'll...
