Just the other day, I was craving The Big Scoop in Williamsburg, and I wanted to post a review, so I googled it and came across a brand new listing for The Big Scoop in Henrico! Excitedly, my husband and I put a trip to this new location on the top of our weekend to-do list! Last night, our plans fell through, so we headed over to Short Pump Towne Center for a walk, and afterwards, we got our GPS to find this new ice cream shop. There was ample parking when we arrived, and patio seating all around the front and sides of the restaurant. An enthusiastic and friendly employee named Ainsley greeted us promptly and offered us samples if we were interested. We just needed a moment to absorb the menu and discover all the colorful flavors in the bins. I knew I wanted something that I couldn’t get anywhere else in Richmond, so I opted for a Cherry Italian Ice Snowball, which is a frozen treat with layers of refreshing Italian Ice and indulgent fresh made vanilla soft serve. What I really appreciated about this ice cream dessert is that I did feel refreshed while I was enjoying it; the Italian Ice was far from too sweet, and was a little more mature than a snow cone ice, laden with sugary syrups that eclipse the vibrant fruit flavor. The vanilla soft serve ice cream was sweet, creamy, and almost buttery, but not in an overturned way, providing a luxurious foil to the lively cherry Italian Ice. Having devoured his Brownie Twister last visit, my husband chose the Oreo Twister this time. There’s no better mix-in or topping for ice cream besides Milk’s Favorite Cookie, according to him. The Big Scoop blended his Oreos in a swath of vanilla soft serve ice cream and finished his Twister with a healthy helping of whipped cream. Oh, the chunks of Oreos looked right at home in the Twister! It was a smooth, creamy, crunchy, fudgy dream come true. Proud of their new business, the two employees chatted with us for quite some time while we were ordering, and let us know that this location is serving burgers and fries as well as other meals in addition to gelati, Italian Ice, ice cream, and funnel cakes and sundaes. It was a joy to see young people take so much pride in their restaurant, both at this location and at the Williamsburg location. We felt so welcomed and we can’t wait to go back and try more of what they offer!

So the woman behind the counter is super sweet and works really hard but the other issues like all the condiments and cup tops not being refilled from the night before and the trash smelling horrible because it wasn’t emptied yesterday and I know this because I was the first customer when they open this morning at noon. I ordered funnel cake and fried Oreos and from looking on their site it says they have nachos but they unfortunately don’t have them anymore which sucks. The funnel cake I could’ve made better at home, it was thin, overcooked and lacking of flavor and literally barely any powdered sugar. For $10 I would expect a much much bigger funnel cake. The fried Oreos were subpar and once again barely any powdered sugar, you could tell the batter on both items must be pancake mix, I’m a baker so when something isn’t homemade I can literally taste it. I could’ve made all this at home instead of spending almost 20 bucks on sub par food with no flavor. Probably won’t order these items again but may try the ice cream as long as it’s not as expensive as the fried items I ordered. And again the girl at the front was so sweet and very helpful, they looked understaffed so I hope she has someone coming to help her but she was super sweet with amazing energy!

Summary: Don’t hesitate. Come try this place! You won’t be disappointed. Going to be a regular spot for us. === My son said, “Mom, give my your phone. I gotta give this place 100 likes.” We came here for ice cream, but pleasantly found out that they have some good, fast-casual, fresh, Americana-type food baskets. We tried: - Chicken tenders/seasoned fries - Waffle fries - Hot dog - Mozzarella sticks - 2 flavors of hand-scooped ice cream (Little Blue Panda and Cotton Candy) It was all: - fresh and cooked to order - good-sized portions - tasty The food pictures on the menu board did does not do them justice. They also had so many varieties of hand-scooped ice cream with vegan options, gelato, soft serve, Italian ice, snowballs, milkshakes, floats. Honestly something new to try with each visit. They also had burgers and other sides to try. The place was nice, clean, spacious and the staff was really friendly which honestly makes the experience. === My only suggestions would be, make it easier to find your menu and pics of food online b/c I know I’m not the only person that checks google reviews before trying a place and if I’m going to be here with my family all the time, how about a frequent customer rewards card program :)

Terrible hours! This is lunch food and you're not open for lunch. We got there "early" on Friday at 1:30pm, a late lunch for us and it was closed! We waited half an hour outside for the doors to open, only to come inside at 2pm, ordered food and was told "oh sorry the kitchen isn't open yet, it'll take 45 minutes for the stoves to warm up for a hot dog and a hamburger! So the entire 1st hour y'all are open, you just disappoint every single customer that comes in to pay for food that for some reason, you aren't selling? Does that make any sense at all? We said we would order icecream first and wait for the food since my toddler wouldn't be excited to hop back into the truck carseat that quickly. The young girl doing everything there was nice and it clearly wasn't her fault that these are the rules but honestly, this place is doomed if this is standard practice. You will go out of business. We saw 4 family's try to come while we waited outside and one of them even said this is the last time they try to eat there since everytime they try, it's closed. This is lunch food, not being sold at lunch on a Friday, on the hottest summer day, not selling any of your cold treats until 2pm and not serving any food until an HOUR AFTER you open your doors... that's just insane. How would any one who was planning on coming to eat even know that you don't even serve food until an entire hour after your posted hours? Honestly you're going to go out of business quickly with this type of hours and total lack of service. The girls inside too are cold, quiet and really need a lesson on good friendly customer service. They are "nice" but really really could use help on customer service. We never got our drink, the fries were sugared instead of salted, which is REALLY weird and seemed like a mistake, we never were asked if we needed anything, it was possibly the worst out to eat experience we have had in years and we aren't ever picky. What sucks too is that the food is actually really good and we have been twice now and both times were great tasting but really poorly ran and operated inside with absolutely bizarre hours and the kitchen not even being open to serve food during your posted hours. When we came in no one greets you, when you leave, no one says bye, it's really like they don't want you bothering to come in at all. The drink I finally got at the end had like 2 small melting pieces of ice in it and was flat. I mean, this place needs a manager, and quick. The first time we went we were lucky it was open apparently but our hamburger and hotdog took half an hour and we were the only ones there... that kind of food needs to take TOPS 8 minutes. It's completely unacceptable to take half an hour for a HOT DOG! Really we were excited about this place but I can already tell it's not going to last until the end of the year with these kind of big problems. Figure it out because you have good paying clients who actually want to spend money at your place but right now, Wendy's would be a better...

I went for first time tonight . I was up next in line the Muslim girl. Was free to ask me what I would like .she walked past me to wait until the young man to ask me so that she could provide service for the Muslim couple behind me.i felt like I'm not good enough for her to wait on if she knew her history and what woman she and her ancestors were really born from age would think differently and show respect to older black woman like me I'm respectful I have money the same color as everyone else even had cash . I will NOT be returning I was upset when I left and tires if being treated this way by people like her. So sad since I live five minutes away. I will travel to short pump mall for ice cream next time. My color is not good enough to be waited on by her my money is not good enough to return . Thanks for 1st impressions especially since I have over 969k followers as well as google embassador with thousands reviews seen daily. Oh well! Truth always service should be for all people .. by all people . Sad so sad do better little girl. Just look at camera you will see what I mean I just stared at her in disbelief! She ignored my gaze that is what the guilty does. It's all good. All is forgiven but I will not return I'm in the service industry and never did...
