The outside sign "Thrifty Ice Cream" is an eye catcher as some of us remember the long-gone Thrifty Drug Store chain with that forever radio jingle, "Save a nickel, save a dime, save at Thrifty all the time. Save a dollar and much more at your Thrifty Drug Store!" Thrifty Drugs featured ice cream for cones starting at 25 cents for a two-scoop cone way back when! Shamrock Dairy purchased the rights to continue the brand name.
The inside and outdoor decorations, signage, and overall decor were not only cleverly made but also quite "tastefully" designed (pictured). When the store was recently visited, a wide variety of age ranges were definitely enjoying the very spacious and fun environment.
Marvin Kouza, co-owner, is shown eagerly scooping two generous scoops of a popular favorite flavor, Mint Chip! Including tax, it was $4.10.
Marvin also is the owner and General Manager of the nearby successful Rodeway Inn. It has a high rating of 4.5 out of 5 on both TripAdvisor and Google; thus, you can be assured of quality service and products will be offered here also.
The parlor is named after Marvin's two children Julie (5 yrs.) and Sammy (4 yrs.) and has been in business for about 2 and...

OH BOY WAS I EXCITED, when I walked in. Threw me back to my childhood and I turned to my dad and said “We should move here!”
Tried a couple flavors and opted for the Banana Split. It was HUGE. I have a very large stomach and I couldn’t eat all three scoops. It also had the largest cherries I’ve ever seen.
The establishment was clean and enjoyable; we opted to eat outside which was also clean.
The staff was very friendly and helpful when I asked for suggestions on how to build my banana split.
Only reason 4 not five stars, is because the peach and chocolate brownie ice cream was crystallized much more than my liking. Cherry Amaretto was fine. I’m not sure if it was the age of the product, storage, or brand (since it was new to me) that caused the crystal throughout the ice cream. That said, if I had room, I would have eaten it all since the flavors were good tasting.
Hope I am able to visit again, there were many things on the menu I...
Read moreRemoved my old review to today. Yes, it is clean and sells snacks, however, we won't be coming back anymore. We come here from Phoenix at least 4 times a year and have always visited. Per the new sign, a sundae shows 3 different flavors of ice cream and shows the toppings. Per what the person read on their sheets, I was only allowed 1 flavor and lots of toppings. If I wanted something spilling all over the sides, I would have ordered a cone. This thing was dripping everywhere, as the whipped cream was just milk. It also took up 1/2 the decent sized container. Hardly any fudge and tons of peanuts. I went through 6 napkins just to clean the bowl from all the mess and then eat whipped milk and lots of nuts to get to halfway to find my ice cream. Only a squirt of fudge. Are we getting shortchanged?? We have never have anything like this in the past 5 years coming. No more. I'd rather have DQ etc. Oh, and my husband ordered a...
