Man its been a minute since I've gotten excited about what I was eating...if I were to use one word to describe this place it would be BOLD. I dont think anyone is going to ask where the seasoning is at here. Savory, spicy, citrus, sweet, herby; their anthem should be "bing bop boom bop bam, they not like us!" I've searched for some time for a good nam kod and owl owl delivered a crispy crunchy flavor bomb rice dish worth to be declared as the house specialty dish. I think its a must order everytime you visit! Laos sausage, lemongrass and herbs of flavor paired with two kinds of dipping sauce...if youre not used to lao style sausage it may seem a little on the dry side for some but this place is not as dry as other places I've tried in the past. Would be interesting if they were to evolve it and mix some more fats into it to be more western style and juicy while maintaining that traditional lao flavors. Larb or Laap gai(chicken)- take a look at my photo and notice how its larger pieces of meat rather than the overly ground up kind. This allowed it to be tender and juicy with very balanced flavors. They also had the toasted rice powder in it which is a must. Pad see ew, balanced, flavorful, if I were to be nit picky, maybe the noodle was a little too soft but others might have enjoyed that more...
Read moreSmall little restaurant but great service and the food is really good. This is usually my go to place for Thai/Lao food in Long Beach. Love everything on the menu. Their somtum platter comes with a good mix of everything; papaya, wings, sausage, satay, pork belly. They also have decent kaopiek and I love the Thai boat here. It's made authentically with the blood mixed in and has great flavor. The kaopoon is ok but I usually go for the other things first as it is slightly sweeter than my liking here. Spicy basil/kaprow is great and so are the padsee ew and pad kee mao. I really like all the dishes, and I've tried all of these over the course of many visits. Drinks like the butterfly tea and Thai tea are bit too sweet in my opinion, but my friends and family like it. Overall, hard to go wrong with any of the menu items. My personal go to is usually the pork belly and sausage with sticky rice, or Thai boat if I want soup. Also they usually have tamarind sauce they give, but you can also ask for pepper and fish sauce that they usually have in the...
Read moreThis is our to-go/eat spot when we're in the Long Beach area, due to their Spicy Jaew Sauce. Today, we ordered the Somtum Platter (Lao Style) along with the 16oz Spicy Jaew Sauce & Large Butterfly Tea. ALL of the meat was perfectly cooked to the crispiness with the right amount of flavors. The Moo Ping (fancy for grilled pork skewers) was surprisingly good. The flavor & texture was just right; especially the texture. It wasn't too soft or soggy. However, the Lao Style somtum was not how we've imagined, but it was still good enough. We're used to the Homestyle Lao version with the heavy shrimp paste, crabs and other "stinky" sauce 😂😁🤣. The restaurant itself is pretty small and there is NO restroom onsite for guests; not so sure if there is one at all. I hope you'll enjoy the fabulous dishes from this restaurant as we did. Don't forget to get a small 8oz of the Spicy Jaew Sauce...
