Coffee, itself, is but the impetus of the culture of coffee – metaphorical as a poem, nuanced as a painting, indulgent as a late sixties, early seventies rock 'n roll playlist… Synaesthetically pleasing.
Good coffee, and all of its accompaniments, demands a worthy barista. She, or he, in providing service, surpasses expectations. Details matters.
Coffee is not fast food, not immediate gratification, not mere routine. Coffee is ritual, sustenance, transcendence.
From the approach, to the entry, to the order, to the table, to the coffee…all within a context of metaphysical comfort and inspiration, a coffee house should embrace, heart to heart, recollection to remembrance.
Javalina Coffee House, Silver City, New Mexico, from Las Cruces, New Mexico, Wednesday morning, 21 June. For two – dark-roast drip, with raw sugar and real milk; freshly brewed, iced hibiscus tea, with raw sugar.
Our most delightful barista, Valentina.

I gave him my order (I was the only customer at the time), which was done in record time. When I started to retrieve the drinks he remembered he forgot to add the syrups: he did so after the fact. He did not apologize and tried to justify his lapse by stating it shouldn't affect the flavor. Well, he was wrong. The drink was terrible, and my wife was very disappointed. I would recommend to the owners, who are very nice people, please avoid having this individual serving the public. He either needs better training or should be released from...
Read moreA pretty sweet, and eclectically furnished, coffee shop but be prepared to pay an extraordinary amount for it. $3.00 for drip coffee and an astonishing $5.40 for a 16oz latte 😧 .... I have been travelling for 6 months in the US now and this is the most expensive coffee by some margin and also extremely average.
With quirky furniture you’re left feeling comfortable and at home immediately, which is great. Extra marks too for the stunning collection of National Geographic magazines that would keep even the most ardent traveller occupied for hours.
Ultimately, this place has great potential but the exorbitant costs and the average coffee drag it from a 4 star to a 3 star,...
