Hosted a work presentation & mixer in the back half of the restaurant. Our waitstaff was very attentive and food was fantastic. The only reason I deducted 1 star is not a reason that would affect the average customer, it's because the manager was basically unavailable to us prior to the meeting for no apparent reason. I should preface this by stating we were a party of around 30-35 people, from 3:30pm-6pm on a thursday while the restaurant was practically dead...like maybe 2 tables seated and 1 person at the bar with like 5 servers on shift. On top of a venue fee (which was very reasonable), we provided food and alcohol to our entire group, so the restaurant was definitely making money off of us during what looked to be an otherwise slow part of their business hours, so keep that in-mind. Anyway, leading up to the event, my boss was adamant about having the restaurant music lowered (not even turned off, just lowered a bit) during the speakers presentations, and when we called (on 3 separate occasions) to confirm this detail, whichever manager(s) were on shift would not take our calls or call us back at a later date...I'm not sure why? My boss is a great guy to work for, very reasonable & generous, so I can't imagine that he would've done or said anything rude enough in the initial booking that would warrant this type of response, or lack thereof for that matter. On the actual day of the event, we were never greeted by a manager which I found extremely odd since we were a party of about 35... so, we asked the main server helping us about lowering the overhead music during the speakers presentations, with no luck... I'm sure not through any fault of the server. I'm not irrational, I've worked in service corporations long enough to know that some outfits have location music controlled by a home office and store-level managers have no access to control it, I don't know that this place is a chain or even one big enough for that to be the case, but if it were the manager only needed to communicate that to us... I also would've understood if it were during normal dinnertime hours or if they were extremely busy, as music is part of the ambience, and part of why patrons go out to eat is for ambience- we would never presume to hinder their business at all, but we were practically their only business for the entirety of our event. Near the end 1 family of 5 came in... but we were done with the presentations by then and had moved onto a normal mixer setting where the music was more than welcome. Anyway, the manager finally made an appearance at the time of the bill but barely spoke two words. It was honestly bizarre. Again, none of this would affect their average customer's experience- so if you're looking for a good margarita and great queso, this is the place! I would go back as a 2-4 top, but probably not for a large group having like a graduation or...
Read moreMy daughter had eaten here a few times and said it was a fun place with great margaritas. We decided to NOT go on Margarita Monday because while the allure of a $5 margarita was enticing, the large crowds that I hear are present were a deterrent. We went on a Tuesday.
Greater and seated at a round, copper clad table in the bar area because the regular dining area did not open until 4:30. It was 4:26. Whatever…..
Water to drink while we perused the menu. I spied a favorite, pozole! I decided on that and my daughter decided on chicken tortilla soup, husband had some enchiladas. I decided to try a blueberry margarita and even with the $18 price tag I figured it would be of a decent size to share with hubs.
Boy- was I wrong. It was literally no more than 6 ounces total- mostly ice. It had a delicious blueberry lavender flavor- but within 5 sips it was gone. Like GONE gone. No more. Nada.
I make homemade margaritas at home all the time- there was MAYBE 1.5 ounces of tequila, the rest mixers- lavender being the most obvious. Definitely NOT worth $18. I get that there is mark up on drinks- but $3.20 per sip of drink is ridiculous. Completely.
The food arrived shortly and the pozole was served with a garnish plate of 4 half slices of radish, some chopped cabbage, a pile of dried herbs (oregano? Weed? Server didn’t know…) and chopped onions. As the “soup” was basically beef broth with a few chunks of super fatty beef and a small handful of hominy, I just shoveled all of the garnish into the soup. I had to use the garnish plate to “defat” the meat chunks. I did not take a picture of this plate of fat scraps at the end, but there was considerable fat. More fat than beef. The hominy was seriously hard, almost crunchy. When I make pozole at home- it cooks low all day and the hominy gets moderately soft, this was like eating the gas station snack “corn nuts”. Out of place and distracting in a soup. I was seriously considering sending this dish back, but my table mates were pleased with their dishes so I decided to just make the best of it.
Both of my table mates enjoyed their respective dishes and said they were prepared well, had excellent flavor, and were an appropriate temperature. (Did I mention that my soup was the temperature of the surface of the sun?)
Service was fantastic, our server took care of our every need quickly and with a smile. She brought us extra chips and some of the best salsa I have ever had.
I will try this restaurant again based on the delight of my table mates, but I will never again pay $18 for any of their...
Read moreMy family and our friends went here celebrating our friend's birthday. This was a Sunday afternoon so it was busy. We had to check in to wait for a table which we were told it was going to be at least 20 minutes. While waiting for our friends, we went to the bar and ordered a drink. The bartender was extremely busy, but she was nice and provided us drinks within 10 minutes. There were 4 empty tables in the bar, so I asked if we could sit at one of those tables. We were told the tables were for those that are on the waiting list. 20 minutes later the tables were still available. After 30 minutes we finally got notified our table was available. As we moved to the table with our drinks, the tables were still available. At our table I noticed that one of the place settings had a fork with dried beans all over it. I don't understand how the person setting the tables did not see this. It covered the half of the fork. We then ordered drinks which took about 20 minutes. They forgot to bring water and chips which we asked for. We ordered our food which took a little longer than normal, which is understandable. When I looked around, I realized that there was one waitress that was working a very large area with full tables. Once our food came, my friend took a bite of his enchilada and said the food was cold. Everyone else's food was hot and tasted good. My friend had to wait another 10 minutes while we ate to get the waitress' attention. She summoned the manager to come over. My friend and I said, "At least the meal will be comped." When the manager came over he apologized and said they would bring out the meal as soon as possible which was quick. We were surprised he did not comp his meal. If I was the manager, I would have at least comped the meal. Food that is not cooked properly can lead to a food borne illness or at the least lead to getting sick. After we ate, we had to wait at least 30 minutes to get our waitress' attention. She did apologize for the wait and stated she was the only one working the floor. She further said she likes being busy and insinuated that the money was better. This was our second time we have eaten here in the last 6 months and I am totally not...
