Friendly staff, locally owned, clean and well lit (lots of windows). It is inexpensive and popular with the locals, and they seem to do a great business at their drive-up window.
Before you order you are served a basket of tortilla chips and salsa. The chips appear to be corn tortillas that have been deep fried ( a little thick for my personal taste) and then broken intro pieces. I've eaten there twice:
I had the potato and chorizo enchiladas dinner ( three medium size enchiladas with a spicy paste--not chunks of potato or chorizo-- inside, covered with a red sauce) served with rice and somewhat runny beans for (if I recall correctly) under $7.00. This wasn't a bad meal, especially for the money, and I liked the enchiladas enough that I would return and order them a la carte rather than in a dinner.
Recently ( my second time ) I had the Carne Asada dinner and my wife had the chicken fajita dinner. Each was $9.50, and I believe they are the most expensive items in the menu. My asada was a pile of very thinly sliced beef pieces, each the size of my palm. The meat was tough, dry, and had a large vein of gristle running through it. The meat was so thin that there is little chance that the meat will not be overcooked. It had grilled onion and peppers over it, as well as a few slices of fried potato. The pieces of chicken in my wife's chicken fajitas were also dry, and also came with a lot of grilled onion and green peppers. Both dinners came with beans and rice. At least this time the beans were not runny. I wouldn't recommend either dinner due to the meat, although perhaps beef fajitas might fare better.
All dinners at Lolitas are served with a Pico mix, guacamole, and lettuce, as well as three corn or flower tortillas.
Lolitas has a large menu, and most items can be ordered a la carte at a very reasonable price. I will likely return and just try a few...
Read moreMy wife and I have been fans of Lolita’s for years. Not sure how we found it but never want to lose it! I grew up in Southern California where I was in the foodservice business and there are many independent “Ma & Pa” Mexican restaurants. Many in Texas too. Lolita’s ranks up there with the best. Meals are homemade & fresh made to order for each patron. Quality and taste are superior with savory spices - not too hot, not too bland. If you’re not familiar with Mexican food and are reluctant to try. Don’t worry, you’ll be a convert at first bite. Restaurant business is a demanding 24/7 choice, even so, wishing the hours hadn't been reduced. Small price for perfection. Support your local...
Read moreFood is great. Staff are very nice, unfortunately though, at some point you have to interact with the owner who just always seems angry to have to be serving you either at the drive through window or at a seat in their tiny restaurant or even when coming inside to pick up your pre ordered food. There are plenty of restaurants that serve fantastic Mexican food here in the Quad Cities. Today was the last time I will support this small business. There’s just no excuse to be so rude to the people who support your business. I really hope she reads this and takes it to heart and does better. But not for our family and friends, but for others here on because we won’t be ordering...
