Apologies to my followers but many thanks for over 10 million views! Iāve been AWOL from Google reviews due to an Amazon offer where they have given me thousands of dollars worth of products to review at no cost to me. Iāve written over 80 reviews for them just this year which has taken my attention away from Google reviews since I donāt get anything from Google, only the pleasure of expressing my passion for food and service!
On to the review!
First impression was the casual atmosphere. The menu, while extensive, is laminated sheets put together with binder rings which is honestly pretty cheesy, not deserving of a menu with such a high average plate cost for sure. Most appetizers and entrees are at least in the $25-$30 range with some items, while for multiple people, with prices in to the hundreds (yes plural) of dollars.
Pricing on drinks donāt really make sense but kind of balanced out in the end. Iāll explained. My son got a Dr. Pepper which came from a soft drink fountain. He got free refills as youād expect. I asked for a Diet Coke which apparently they donāt have in their fountain (I was not made aware of this until it showed up at the table and it became evident) so I got a can and a glass. When I asked for a refill, I see I was charged for ANOTHER Diet Coke. Kind of petty when youāre charging $3.86 for soft drinks so I spent $7.72 on two cans of coke. I guess I should have just brought a 12 pack with me! At the SAME time my wife asked for a lemonade, but she didnāt want a fountain drink so the waiter offered a custom lemonade from the bar. We were also charged $3.86 for that which should probably be about 1.5 times a fountain drink charge so they are UNDER charging for those drinks in my opinion.
The service was top notch! Achieving unselfish team service is no easy task but we had several people stop by to ask us if we needed anything, refill chips and salsa and drinks. No food auctioning! Finally! This seems to be an issue at so many restaurants now and is a huge pet peeve of mine. Plates were given to the correct person without asking who they belonged to, well done there!
I got a big seafood boil with crab legs, shrimp, muscles, and added corn, sausage, potato, and egg which ended up a $45 plate. I did share with my wife and son. The seafood was good, it could be better. It was nicely cooked but I would have liked to see some more seasoning to give it that extra kick. Perhaps a spicy option to kick it up a notch. I wouldnāt expect a Cajun seasoning, since this is a Mexican restaurant but lots of options in spicy peppers and sauces in Mexican cuisine for options.
My son ordered a fajita plate that was really good and my wife ordered a shrimp plate which was also good.
Altogether, good Mexican seafood. Some areas for improvement but this is a new establishment. I look forward to another visit maybe in a month or two to see how...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I were referred to La Playita by one of his coworkers, and we were not disappointed! The atmosphere is simple and clean, and honestly, it doesnāt need anything more. Simple is often better. We were greeted by Javier, who was our server for the evening. He was a pleasant young gentleman who clearly takes a lot of pride in his family's work and his motherās cooking.
We ordered the seafood feast for two, and it was absolutely delicious! The salsas were spicy yet full of flavor, and the homemade corn tortillas were the perfect complement to the dish. Every bite took us straight back to the West Coast. Thereās truly no place like it in Sioux Falls.
The service was exceptional, the food was top-notch, and the restaurant was spotless. The prices are transparent, and yes, good food comes at a price. But itās absolutely worth it. The quality of the food and the service justifies the cost.
I canāt wait to bring our children here! Highly recommend if you're looking for an authentic,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe hubs and I tried La Playita for the first time last night and had a great visit. This family-owned and operated restaurant offers more than just tasty food, itās an experience. The dining room has a beachy vibe, and the upbeat music adds to the lively atmosphere.
We started with tortilla chips and habanero salsa, which was bold, spicy, and absolutely delicious. We both love heat, so it was perfect for us, but a warning to you if you prefer milder flavors.
Since we couldnāt decide on just one dish, we went for the variety found in The Seafood Feast for Two, and it did not disappoint. Everything was fresh and flavorful, but my personal favorite was the ceviche-bright, tangy, and perfectly balanced.
If youāre in the mood for great seafood, La Playita is definitely worth a visit. The two brothers taking care of the front of the house make you feel right at home, and the food is just as good as the hospitality. Weāll...
