The food is very good. Cakes r the best I've ever tasted, as are the scones. My issue is with being overcharged. This has happened to me at least 3 times. As much as I like the food I think I may stop giving them my business. My sister & I stop in a lot & get the half priced pastries. What happens is they often still charge u full price for the half priced stuff. U don't get a receipt unless u ask for one and then it's not itemized so u have no idea what u pay for individual items. This last time, yesterday, I once again paid then realized it was more than it should've been. I called & asked the prices of cream horns & scones. The woman confirmed the price & that I was charged full price for the cream horn. No apology or offer to refund. It's only 1.25, but if I wanted to pay full price I'd have gotten a fresh one, not the bargain ones. The most annoying thing is the woman who rang me up said "These are all the half priced items correct?" And still charged me full price, then didn't give me a receipt. I've been here a lot & try to save when I can because their prices r a bit high. I know this has happened numerous times, but it's a bit embarassing to go back & complain about being overcharged & hold up the line.
If I do get a big craving for a scone perhaps I will get ONE and only one, so I'll know what I am charged for that one item. Their pastries are quite good though and cakes are the best around. Just be aware if buying half priced items.
Update: 7/13/22 I’ve had very good items & am quite pleased with the quality of food. They have the best whoopie pies in the area imo! Unfortunately for me, as I want to keep going back to get them!! So good. Trying to lose weight though so I’ve cut my...
Read moreThe Bankery is located in downtown Skowhegan , Maine but once you step through the door you feel transported like your in a bakery in the North End of Boston!
The bakery itself is located inside an old bank so it gives it a very unique charm and feel. There is another side to the Bankery called the Fleuriste. I’ve not done any business there but as the name suggests they do flowers , have a gift area, wedding services and formalwear rentals.
Honestly if you’ve never tried this place out put it on your to do list! It’s a must. I’ve enjoyed trying everything there and have never been anything but thrilled!
They have all kinds of desserts, breakfast pastries, breads, coffee , cookies and prepared meals. All good! My favorites are there sandwich cookies… there unbelievable! They have many types , I love the ginger snap and my husband the M&M. The flavor of filling they use is perfect and they give a perfect ratio of cookie to filling! There amazing!
The breakfast pastries are so fresh and taste fabulous! If it’s not on your morning routine yet this place is the perfect stop for coffee and breakfast! They have all the coffee options from your standard cup to a latte, all done great!
They have a variety of prepared meals. Mac and cheese, veggie and cheese lasagna, different types of pot pies and I’m sure a few others I’m missing. I’ve only tried the veggie lasagna so far but it was excellent! $27.50 for a large and I’d say it feeds at least six people. Flavor was great and it was easy to cook! Very pleased.
Like I said it’s an amazing place that you’ve got to try, you will thank me I...

If you’re anywhere near Skowhegan and haven’t been to The Bankery, stop what you’re doing and GO. I walked in expecting a simple treat and walked out with a full heart, a full stomach, and an unforgettable experience.
First off, Mackenzie and Grace deserve a standing ovation. Their kindness, attention to detail, and warm hospitality made me feel like family. They handled a full case of French cream horns (yes—12 cream horns with raspberry filling) like total pros, all while smiling and keeping the vibe welcoming and cheerful.
I also grabbed a sausage, egg & cheddar croissant, a chocolate croissant, and a strawberry & cream cheese croissant—and every single bite was next-level bakery bliss. Flaky, rich, and perfectly balanced. You can tell the bakers care.
Speaking of bakers, I had the pleasure of chatting with Mike, who not only shared his love for baking but gave me a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the building’s history and attached theater, which adds a whole layer of cool charm to this already awesome place.
I even got to meet Matt, the owner, who was incredibly kind and clearly passionate about his team and community.
And yes—this bakery is actually inside a beautiful old bank! Vaults, high ceilings, historic charm—it’s like walking into a pastry-filled time capsule.
Final verdict: 5 stars all day. This is more than a bakery—it’s an experience. I’ll absolutely be back, and if you’re ever in Richmond, stop by Morning Moose Coffee—we’ll do our best to match the same level of amazing service and community spirit that The...
