Wow. Where do I begin!? I guess I’ll begin at the beginning. From the moment we walked in, we were promptly greeted by the sweet hostess who showed us right to our table. Upon being seated, we immediately were served waters & chips w/ salsa; which was sooo fresh and the salsa chefs kiss.
We then met our server, Sonny. WOW!! There’s not enough words that can describe how AMAZING Sonny is! He introduced himself and let us know he’d be right back bc he needed to go wash his hands, wow! That was definitely reassuring that we were in good hands, literally 😂.
When he can back, he took his time to go over margarita options with us and recommended some. I had the millionaria & my husband had the Texas marg. Both were A-1. Delicious & hand crafted.
Throughout the dining experience he frequently checked on us, while also respecting our one-on-one time and made sure to check in if we had any questions, especially since it was our first time there.
We ordered some queso to start us off. Unbeknownst to us, he brought it out with a side of Jalapeño puree. O. M. G. The puree really elevated the queso! We were then tearing the chips up! So much that Sonny must’ve noticed and came back with a fresh batch of chips that we didn’t even have time to request.
My husband ended up getting the brisket ultimate quesadilla w/ charro beans, per Sonny’s request and it was delicious! My husband doesn’t usually care for beans but was really pleased with these.
I trusted his recommendations so much that I decided to try something completely new and something I’ve never heard of. I got the Tlayuda Oaxaqueñao per his and another server’s recommendation and wowwww. I still can’t get over how flavorful this dish is. Think of a Mexican style pizza that has all the works! It’s served on a huge, super crispy corn tortilla with refried beans, grilled chicken, chorizo, mozzarella, cilantro and finely diced red onions. I felt like I was eating back in Mexico with how fresh and authentic the dish tasted. We learned today that it’s a traditional dish per Sonny!
I cannot recommend this amazing restaurant more & I’m so happy we have one here in Marietta area.
Can’t wait to go back, do yourself a favor and go! And for Sonny while you’re at it, although I’m sure any staff member is equally amazing.
Thank you so much Sonny for your kind, friendly & attentive service. It’s so hard finding great dining experiences this day & you blew it out the park! We will be back to...
Read moreY’all know I love good Mexican food! I remembered this relatively new restaurant not far from where we live, so off we went! Arrived at about 5:30ish and there were only a few people ahead of us. We got seated fairly quickly and our server, Albany appeared. We chatted a few minutes and I got practice my Spanish! Albany is very personable, and she knew everything (and I do mean Everything about the menu, and their menu is BIG)!
I asked several questions (never having been there before) and based on her recommendations I got a 10 oz frozen Margy. It was excellent! (Y’all, you can go up to a 20 oz but I’m a short woman, and decided this would Not be the kind of place to dance on the table!
We started with their chips and salsa. Chips were good, but I don’t care for pulverized salsa, I like it a little more chunky, but it was ok. I ordered the Tacos Campechanos ($18.99) it has chorizo, fried chicharròn, queso fresco and cilantro. First, let me say that this is a chain. It’s an Americanized version, it’s NOT authentic. That being said, the beef was tender, but lacked a whole lot of flavor. The chicharròn (fried skin) didn’t add any flavor, and I didn’t feel like the crunchy texture added any depth to the taco. I love refried beans if they’re done correctly, and these were really good.
We started with ceviche (if it’s done right, it’s fantastic) and here at Abuelo’s, it was perfect!! Although, I wished it had shrimp in it, it was still delicious!
As the restaurant filled up quickly Ms. Albany continued to stop at our table to check on us and asked if we needed anything. She was on it! Some servers just understand and have a great sense of timing. I don’t know, maybe that’s something you’re born with, cuz if you have a server that forgets you exist every time they walk away from your table, you know it! We’ll absolutely go back, and I will request being seated in...
Read moreThis was a spur of the moment decision to order dinner to take home. I was excited to see this place finally open. I was greeted as I walked in. The place wasn’t busy at all but it was at 4 pm. Only 4 customers sitting at the bar. I ordered cheese dip, which was really good..chicken egg rolls…. I think would have been better warm and if they remembered the sauce that was to come with it and chicken tacos also would have been better if warm and with the sauce was included with the order. The waitress asked if I wanted any chips and salsa while I waited I had asked it it was included with the meal she stated yes. I said I would just wait then thank you. Order came out with in about 5 mins. I live only mile from the restaurant. I was excited to try my dinner as it smelled fantastic. Disappointed that by ordering cheese dip and having salsa that only half the little bag of chips was filled. I had enough food leftover for lunch the next day it it definitely was better reheated . Customers in the restaurant were given more portions of chips and rice and beans than what was included with my meal. Rice and beans are ok. I am how ever looking forward to giving this restaurant another visit as there drinks looked very good and I would like to try other items on the menu. I really think dining in would have made a difference in the taste of my food last night as well as my sauces may not have been forgotten. I have already shared this with neighbors and friends they too will be coming in to try...
