I went to Ixtapa in Snohomish as I was in the area on my way home. I usually go to the one in Monroe which never disappoints! I ordered a no name, a side of beans, a bag of chips as I didn't think chips came with an appetizer and a large salsa to go. ( the menu showed a 24 oz for 9$.) I went up to pay and my total was 48.09. I choked a little and asked the server if I could review the receipt. He showed me and the salsa was 14.99 which I told him the menu showed it as 9$. He said that he gave me the 32oz and I told him I changed my mind and didn't want one that large. He said he couldn't reverse the bill and that was my balance. When he brought the food out there were 2 bags of chips and 2 salsa's. I was a little confused and at that time he told me the food comes with a bag of chips and salsa and I looked at him in dismay and told him I wouldn't have paid 6$ for chips if he had told me when I was ordering! I signed the receipt and before I could finish filling in the tip and writing the amount I paid at the bottom he swiped the receipt from me and put it behind the counter. When he stepped away for a moment to bring out the rest of the meal( it was to go ) I grabbed the receipt and finished filling it in so there would be no surprises on my visa of the amount I paid. Clearly I won't be going back and it's really sad as I used to take my kids...
Read moreI grew up in Carnation so I cannot overstate at how big of an Ixtapa fan I am. Tried take out from the Snohomish location. I have quite a few dietary restrictions that make it harder to eat now.
In my opinion the prices looked inflated compared to other locations. Probably because they are close to historic downtown Snohomish. I got the street tacos, which tasted good. But, asked for no onions (dietary restriction on most nightshades) and there was some onions on some of the tacos.
The street tacos normally come with rice and beans. They only offer the regular rice that has tomatoes in it (Carnation has white rice without tomatoes). So, I just got the beans on the side. Now, I love beans so I was really looking forward to the beans. But, they were not good. Taste was off and they were watery.
Did not dine in, but when I went to pick up the location seems to have the classic Ixtapa atmosphere, which I love. Murals on the wall and mariachi music. So, that is great if you love that.
I recognize I'm limited in what I can eat so someone without dietary restrictions may have a different experience. For me if I am really craving Ixtapa I will probably just drive out to Carnation or Redmond Ridge which I think have better prices (that I remember) and...
Read moreWe had been coming to Ixtapa for years...always decent food and friendly...nothing spectacular but decent.
We went there on Valentine's day last night at 5:30.. We.learned that new owners had remodeled and such. Looked nice..
I had the Tacos Carbon....the flavor was ok...but they weren't traditional Carbon tacos..
The 8.00 Margaritas we had were flat...no taste...and a pinch of tequila..we ordered on the rocks and they were loaded with ice.
The biggest issue we had was there was absolutely no music playing...we sat in the bar. You would think on Valentine's evening they would expect couples to come in and relax and would have some Hispanic music playing or something to help set the mood.....NOPE
Instead we sat there in a fully lit lounge and listened to the Hostess hollering and joking around in Spanish to the cooks and staff the whole time on the other side of the restaurant...so annoying and very loud. That was the deal breaker for us...we could have done better at ANY restaurant on Valentine's day I'm sure.
We will give them another chance in a few months once they are ready for customers...so for now it's 2 stars...the next trip will be "make it or...
