Went to Mykels for a Special Dinner. We made reservations for 6:30 we arrived a few minutes early and sat down immediately. My husband ordered a Rib Eye medium and I ordered the Filet medium. Our dinners arrived 20 -22 minutes later. Husbands Rib Eye was over done and my Filet was raw. We informed our server. Server took the Rib Eye and Filet back to the kitchen. Server came back 24-26 minutes later now our green beans and baked potato were cold! Rib Eye was still over cooked brown inside and my Filet was now over done past medium. Asked to see the Manager, not there... her boyfriend comes over we show him our dinner he shrugs his shoulders and says I'll remove it from your bill. There was no apology, no can we offer you something else, only let me get you the bill for the salad and 1 beer. Atleast he should have offered an alternative or say Sorry for the meal's. My husband got the bill and it took the server another 15 minutes to cash us out, we Should have left NEVER to return. PS remember, this restaurant is connected to an old run down motel, that should have been...
Read moreAfter a long day dipnetting on the Kenai, I knew only one thing could restore my energy: steak. And Mykel’s delivered. Their sirloin with whiskey sauce was exactly what I needed—tender, flavorful, and paired beautifully with mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. (Honestly, I’m still thinking about that whiskey sauce.)
To wash it down? A Strawberry Collins that was equal parts refreshing and dangerous—it went down way too easily. My husband chose the scallops in garlic and wild mushroom sauce and declared them “exceptional” (which, for him, is high praise). Major, his service dog, also approved—our booth was spacious and comfy, perfect for his well-earned nap while we dined.
Despite it being a busy summer evening, the waitstaff were absolutely lovely—friendly, attentive, and never rushed.
Bottom line? Mykel’s is no longer a “we should try that place”—it’s an annual Kenai tradition in the making. Or, more realistically, every time we’re in Soldotna.
10/10, would dipnet all day just for an excuse to...
Read moreWell. This is a very well known place, and I mean this constructively, as I want this place to keep succeeding. I've lived in the area my entire life. They have been on a slow down slide with food quality for over 20 years. Place is older and they keep it up, but needs freshening and some physical fixes. That is common. Issues mainly with the food quality and menu (typical, static) seem to bleed over to staff in their work, but are generally very nice tho. May be they are under staffed, don't know. Improvement attempts have certainly been made, and owners are great community partner. The key is always quality food, quality service, and clean. Ambiance, etc is great, and it is clean. I've been there several times since the late 1980's, last being Mothers day. Probably not going anymore unless a lot changes, mainly a new chef and a new way of handling buffets. PLUS SIDE: The bar area is a cool place to hang out at, decent bar food selection. Nice older AK bar ambiance to a point, but...
