This is our first day in Soldotna after a long journey from Texas. The food and hospitality I received from this restaurant shed the stress of the trek from me like a keen knife.
The owner greeted me warmly, welcoming me to the city and insisting that we order even though we found out we had arrived minutes before closing and did not wish to inconvenience them. I could feel his genuine and humble confidence in the craft of his establishment.
The Pad Thai's flavor's were balanced so precisely, as if the ingredients were measured out by a syringe - the kind of perfect harmony of flavor that leaves its signature on your tongue. Spicy, sweet, sour, savory - a rhythm of intensity and mildness between each bite. It felt more like eating a piece of fine art than a dinner. Unfortunately, I had to wait until reaching my home to eat, so some of the texture was lost to the time spent in the paper to-go container, but the experience was more than sufficient to hint at the full glory of the dish.
This establishment has earned permanent customers in myself and my partner. This is the best pad thai I have...
Read moreThis was a gem. We have been here foy many years, but rarely eat out. We stopped in for lunch before an appointment in Sdotna. We live 90 miles south. The menu had many enticing choices and we chose an appetizer and two soups. It was spicy, served quickly, very fresh, and delicious! The Cafe is small but very clean and appropriately decorated. I think the freshness of the vegetables as well as the flavors of everything was perfect. I am looking forward to going back. It was expensive for us, but a real treat since we who love to cook, haven't tried eating or making a thing we ordered. In fact, I would rather enjoy letting the experts make it! There is an outdoor eating area protected from the wind and weather for when the weather allows. Also a nice fireplace to warm us...

In any case, Pad Thai Cafe in Soldotna was a totally unexpected gem. The gang panang, tom yum kung, woon sen (I forget with what), and whatever else we got... oh my... it was like I was back in Chiang Mai. The level of spice is optional, but the spicy-spicy level was finally up to par. We enjoyed speaking with the owner in Thai, learning that she's only been in Alaska a couple years, and of course complementing the perfect taste of home. There is also a clean bathroom onsite, and plenty of parking available out front....
