Modelo's Market Cafe — Restaurant in Somerville

Loved it. Young man couldn't get the card machine to work. I didn't have cash and I wanted to buy the only melon left. He gave it to me and told me to bring the money back later. That was yesterday (8/18/2018). I forgot the name and searched frantically for an address today. Voila!! Here it is on my Cafe review page!! I will be back tomorrow to pay for the melon and buy several other goodies! SEPTEMBER 12, 2018 MODELOS is not the store mentioned above. I did go to Modelos and it was great. AND I returned 3 days later for more after looking for it for 3 days because I didn't know the name. Wonderful, tasty food and I fell in love with the Coconut cake. I had to go back for 2nds. The staff was very friendly, helpful, put up with me asking what everything was, etc. I enjoyed the food and loved the store. I will be going back often. BUT! The first experience was with a Latinas America Market store NEXT TO Modelos I went because I wanted a melon and I had the great experience I mentioned with the young man. The melon was not at all ripe or even near it. When I went back to pay for the melon the mother was at the register. I explained, paid her the money, and told her about the melon and could I have a replacement. Even Trader Joe's does replacement at your word!! It was 6.99 after all. But this woman was adamant that she would not compensate. I told her it was an inferior product. Maybe because of my race, she thought I was lying? Why? She got a bit rude so I left. Genuinely amazing! The staff was so kind and friendly. You could really tell that everyone who works there is genuinely excited about the amazing food and want to share the experience with you. Very authentic Brazilian. My cousin spent a year in Brazil and I spent a year working at a Brazilian restaurant elsewhere in the states and we were both thrilled with the selection and quality. My cousin says Modelos Market Cafe is the only place in Massachusetts he trusts to get an acai bowl. The cheese bread, the pork, the juices and the desserts were all mind blowing. Wow, stopped in randomly & was extremely impressed

Great selection of unique baked goods (yucca almond cheese cookie anyone?) Very fresh tasting, even though we got there right before close and there is a good selection. Also, it's not just unique baked goods, there are plenty of Brazilian staples like cheese bread, variants of flan, and delicious other options

I dont think food service has to be this way, but it was also very pleasant how warm and inviting the staff was. Especially because for the most part, I had to ask a few questions on some items.
