I have been going here since childhood, when the store used to be on Highland Ave. I moved to Everett a little while back but was in Davis today so I went to the store to grab a chocolate and olive loaf, sliced. Both were as delicious as ever, I love those big chocolate chips in that bread that almost takes like chocolate cake.
Only unfortunate thing is the customer service, the person working seemed like maybe they were having a bad day (which get, I have been there) but they were actually unfriendly and I felt like I bother when I came in...
I said hello when I came in (I was the only other person in there so I was obv talking to them) and didn't get a response. I knew what I wanted, but the person was clearly putting some cookies out so I hung back, didn't rush them, and looked around a bit until they asked me if I was ready, and I ordered.
While I was paying two other customers came in and before my card was even charged they walked away and just said "when you hear the beep you are all set." No thanks, no have a nice day, it was just so cold, despite me courteously sharing all the common niceties shared with other human beings.
Such a bummer to go to a place you have been supporting for years and feeling like a nuisance. Its too bad you don't sell more varieties in Market Basket, or I'd get them there instead of inconveniencing the staff member again.
Don't forget to teach your staff the importance of being friendly, it goes a looooong way, trust me, been in the service industry many years...
Read moreOnce, my bag was chosen for secondary screening by the TSA at Boston Logan Airport. My loaf of chocolate bread from When Pigs Fly had set off the alarms. The TSA agent pulled out the bread and informed me that he loved When Pigs Fly as well, and that the sundried tomato bread never lasted long enough in his house for him to have any. When Pigs Fly, setting off TSA alarms and bringing people together in the strangest of places!
Now for the actual review: My favorite is the chocolate bread -- everything I want in a sweet bread, really. It tastes divine when toasted (those melty chocolate chips!) and sometimes I add strawberries and whipped cream for a special treat! The banana walnut bread is also great -- a nice crunch and sweetness. For savory breads, I love the sundried tomato with fresh basil. Great flavors. All of their savory breads have this chunky salt on top that is really tasty. I always go for their holiday special deal (buy a $25 gift card and get a free loaf of bread). I buy the gift card for myself and it never lasts long! When Pigs Fly is a...
Read moreI lived in Boston for four years and When Pigs Fly was one of my the things I missed most upon leaving. I’d come back every year or so and be delighted to picked up a salted caramel chocolate chip or campfire chocolate chip (easily the best cookie I’ve ever eaten). So it was with great disappointment that, in the last six months, they discontinued the good cookies. They still have okay cookies (I like the s’mores one), but nothing like what they offered before. Their bread is top notch, but there are other delicious bakeries in the Boston area. There are no other cookies like the campfire chocolate chip. Did Boston not love them the way I did? If that’s the case, I’m sorry that the people of this city lack the taste and passion that I have for the campfire chocolate chip and they deserve a world without it. I don’t deserve that though, and I will greatly miss those...
