My partner and I wanted to treat ourselves and made the half hour drive to Woochi with empty stomachs, excited to have good sushi and go somewhere we hadn’t before in the area. When we got there it was relatively empty, and we were seated promptly and got to order our drinks and our shared entree quickly. We ordered chirashi — the direct description from their menu is, “15 pieces of sashimi served on top of sushi rice”. I have ordered chirashi several times before from different places and have loved it every time, it’s my favorite sushi dish. We were excited to get a 28$ meal to share as we usually cannot afford something like that. With our dish we were supposed to get sides of ginger salad and miso soup, which came quickly, and were very small sized as we thought was appropriate for the fact that they were just additions to an entree. It took quite a while for our chirashi to arrive, we weren't upset at the wait and our server Joseph apologized to us and so on, he was wonderful the whole time. Very attentive, apologetic, and kind. Much more so than the manager when we did finally get our food and it was a plate with the promised 15 pieces of sashimi laid out with a scoop of rice, which was not what we ordered, or what the menu even said. The pieces of sashimi were small, there were no typical fish used in chef’s choice fish selections, like salmon or even tuna... I understand this is “chef’s selection” but I have literally never ordered a variety plate without really basic fish, so I thought it was kind of weird. The cuts were really strange and they honestly smelled off. When our server came to check on us and we hadn’t touched our food, we politely told him this was not what we had expected or what the literal menu said. We both felt bad and had never sent food back. He told us he’d get someone to come talk to us and he quickly did. Again, I have gotten chirashi many times, and this was not chirashi. We were told that was how Woochi “sometimes” did ”chirashi” by the manager... but this was not chirashi. When I told her that it wasn’t as the menu said, she began arguing with me by saying it was “basically the same” because the one scoop of rice on the side. ALL the chirashi bowls I’ve ever seen or gotten have been, well, bowls, and are full of a ton of sushi rice with the sashimi laid out on top, as well as toppings. She asked me if I was expecting it to be “nigiri” as if that’s what making the actual dish as it is defined is called... like it’s something special we should have known to ask for. When asking about the lack of regular fish she told me what you got was “luck of the draw” ... seems very fair to me when substitutions aren’t allowed. She told me very condescendingly that I should “keep that in mind next time I ordered there”, although I’ve never had to “keep that in mind” anywhere else. She very clearly was angry that we complained about not getting the food we ordered and did not want/were not going to pay 30$ for when it was literally not the dish we ordered. She asked if we wanted to send it back and replace it but at this point we had been there for a while and didn’t want to sit and wait for more food to be brought out, wanted to leave because of the manager’s attitude and obvious dislike towards us, and because the restaurant was supposed be closing pretty soon and we didn’t want to hold up the staff while they tried to close and get home. So I told her I’d just like to send it back, which obviously annoyed her despite the fact that by doing so we wouldn’t make them create another whole dish or hold them past close. When we got the bill, we had to pay over 10$ for a water, a sprite, and the smallest portions of miso soup/ginger salad I’ve received at a sushi place... really? It seemed obvious to me the portions for the soup and salad were smaller than if they were actually ordered ala carte, but whatever. We paid and tipped our server and headed out. The manager ignored us while we walked out a few feet from her. We’re really sad we couldn’t have a nice dinner date and we had to...
Read moreSurprisingly Horrible Meal and Service: 2 hours later - starving and traumatized After many recommendations my husband and I decided to try out Woochi as our rare date night dinner. We were initially pleased being seated right away in the bar room without a reservation. (there was a show at the Morris and they looked to be busy but not packed, the “no wait” continued for the extensive time we ended up at the location) Once we were seated our waitress swung by with waters and a smile saying she had tables ahead of us and would be back for our drink order, 15 min later she returned – we decided to order everything and wanted to avoid any possible delays after arriving hungry. We ordered edamame, a boston roll and a spicy tuna roll as starters, then pad thai and udon noodle soup as mains. After 45 minutes we asked for an update needing something to eat and our patience running thin, we were told it was coming. Another 15 minutes after that we were told our meal would be “comped and sorry for the delay”. We were then bought two incorrect sushi rolls, we mentioned they were incorrect and the waitress argued they were right. Another waitress came over, confirmed they were indeed incorrect and whisked them away. My husbands soup was then brought out with the correct rolls. He was encouraged to eat because mine would surely be coming shortly, he struggled with the dish saying it was cold and bland. My meal did not come shortly, it never came at all. I had to flag down the waitress who now was avoiding us to ask if my food would be coming, she told me “no probably not, do you still want food?”, yes we came hungry and I am starving, “ok ill have to re-ring it in, do you want to pay for it?”. At this point I was so surprised by the entire experience I just asked for anything, anything to go so that I could eat something. She returned with a brown paper bag and a managers visit to the table. We were apologized to for the experience and assured we would not be charged. Between the awful service and the food either being wrong, cold, tasteless or not arriving at all, it was exhausting being there and ruined our very rare time out. 2 hours we wasted here. The meal didnt cost us anything yes, but it did cost us 2 hours in a babysitter and our sanity for the night. This was the worst dining experience I have experienced since before the pandemic. I would never recommend this restaurant, in fact I would...
Read moreMy experience with the above and beyond service at Woochi started with prompt and professional service for my girlfriends recent birthday party! the 15 of us including me sat down on a Tuesday and were greeted with a fully prepped and ready table, attentive waitstaff and a drink order was in and delivered promptly. Two absolutely delicious sushi boats ( one sashimi and one sushi) quickly followed and everything was off to an amazing start! The restaurants choice in music, lighting, and general feel perfectly matches the refreshing take on a traditional hibachi and sushi restaurant! After an accidental water tip over by one of the guests at my table the staff responded quickly replacing the silverware and napkins, along with drying ( and even going as far as to mop and sweep the entire affected area!) within moments of the accident. This level of service and responsiveness was maintained throughout the dinner and sets an extremely impressive standard for anywhere else! After an absolutely perfect dinner a beautiful cake with a very neat and creative spinning rose centerpiece ended our perfect night and tied everything together perfectly! A few hours later after everyone has returned home we realized one of the birthday cards ( containing a gift) was left on the table by mistake, so I called the restaurant which was understandably closed since it was already past midnight. The next day I received a prompt response from the manager Rob who after I explained the situation. Offered without any type of prompting or request, to go through the dumpster and look for the missing gift! A few minutes later I received a second phone call from Rob informing me that the owner himself had heard our conversation and elected to personally do the deed and had in fact located the gift and would hold onto it until we could come pick it Up!! This level of service, from the gentlemen who helped clean up the spilled water, to the amazing hostess and waitstaff who handled every request we could’ve had. All the way up to the manager and even owner offering and going through a restaurants trash on behalf of a phone call! Shows beyond a shadow of a doubt the highest level of experience I have ever encountered and deserves to be recognized as such! Thank you so much to everyone at Wooshi and I’m excited to...
