Calli Baker’s Firehouse Bar & Grill Review
Location: 910 Lake Arrowhead Rd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
Overall Experience: During our recent visit to Calli Baker’s Firehouse Bar & Grill, our experience was a mixed bag. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming, fitting for a laid-back meal with friends and family. However, the quality of the food varied significantly between dishes.
Food:
• The Beast Burger: I ordered the Beast Burger, and it lived up to its name. The burger was sizable, well-cooked, and flavorful, making it a satisfying choice. The toppings were fresh, and the bun was nicely toasted. This dish was definitely a highlight. • Pizza: My son opted for the pizza, which, unfortunately, did not meet our expectations. The crust was a bit too doughy, and the sauce lacked the vibrant flavor that one would hope for in a good pizza. It seemed like a misstep compared to the other dishes. • Tuna Special: My wife chose the tuna special, and it was a standout. The tuna was fresh, perfectly seared, and seasoned to perfection. It was clear that this dish was prepared with care, and it showcased the kitchen’s potential when it comes to seafood. • Meatloaf: Our friend ordered the meatloaf, which came in a generous portion. While the size of the serving was impressive, the flavor left something to be desired. The meatloaf was somewhat bland and could have used more seasoning to enhance its taste.
Service: The service was friendly and attentive. Our server was quick to address any concerns and ensured that our drinks were refilled promptly. The overall dining experience was pleasant in terms of service.
Conclusion: Calli Baker’s Firehouse Bar & Grill offers a varied menu that can be hit or miss depending on what you order. The Beast Burger and tuna special were notable highlights, demonstrating the kitchen’s ability to deliver excellent dishes. However, the pizza and meatloaf fell short in terms of flavor and execution. If you visit, I’d recommend sticking to the seafood options or trying one of their signature burgers for the...
Read moreCali Baker’s used to be one of our favorite bars in Arcadian Shores but based on our most recent visit we will not be returning anytime soon. Normally we order the grouper fingers, and these have been excellent in the past at Cali Baker’s but on our visit on Thursday, September 4th, the bites were not the same as in the past, were more like fish from an order of fish and chips, contained too much batter, and some of the batter was undercooked and soggy. I am not sure if Cali’s switched who they receive their grouper bites from, but they are definitely not the same and were of an inferior quality. Normally when we sit at the bar the staff are attentive and personable. However, on this visit the staff appeared to be more interested in socializing with each other and playing on their phones than interacting with their customers. One of the reasons we sit at the bar is so we can talk to the bartenders, but this was not the case as the only time we interacted with the bartenders is when we ordered food or a drink. The most disturbing aspect of our visit was when we observed a patron vaping across the bar from us (see photo). Not only did this patron vape while in the bar but one of the male employees also was vaping about five feet from where we were sitting! As a disabled combat Veteran who was subjected to the harsh environmental conditions from the burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan, I should not have to endure those who vape inside a restaurant where this unhealthy and potentially deadly activity is prohibited. It is a travesty that the management at Cali Baker’s permits vaping in their establishment. I hope that the health department visits Cali Baker’s while someone is vaping and imposes the respective fines and penalties they so richly deserve. It saddens me to write this review but there are countless restaurants in Arcadian Shores that deserve your patronage and money, where you are appreciated and respected which unfortunately is not the case at...
Read moreThis place is an old firehouse. Very cool. The large doors open provided a good breeze and airy feeling which was great during covid. My company was 4 people. We wanted to eat a biminies but it was packed and had a 45 minute wait. So, this place wasnt crowded at all for a booming sat night. That should have been a red flag. Waitress ill give a 4. It wasnt so busy we couldnt have gotten refills and been tended to. Atmosphere was good. Now, the prices were way to high for what you got. 2 of my party got wings. Basically a $1 per wing. Baby chicken or cornish hen? Bantom or quail? Pigeon? no idea. This was NOT a full size wing. The sauce was mediocre and i suppose "good enough" was the main ingredient. It was bland and dissapointing. For the high prices, the menu states on every item to add.."anything" $4 or $5 more. I had a fish sandwich for $12. It was cooked well. But tasted like straight grease from all the foods cooked in that fryer. The bread tasted like you just put raw flour in your mouth. The mixed drinks.. Girls had margaritas..one coconut. Salt around the rim where its supposed to be but they were preloaded with salt. Get your blood pressure cuff out. Lets move on to the BBQ.. I'm born and raised in the south in NC... I have very HIGH expectations of BBQ. In NC, lexington BBQ and BBQ joes. You get killer hush puppies and extra sauce traditionally. Calli bakers on a scale of 1-10.. A flat 2. It was made with "good enough".. Just...yeah, no. Food was cooked well but prices high as a giraffe butt for tiny servings... You dont get what you pay for. My apologies but this is an honest unbiased review. This place needs to...
