Loud, but partially due to its popularity/crowds. Food is tasty and innovative. I had the "Trash Hash". My mother's tofu burrito (who is this woman?) was better than expected and both dishes were pleasantly generous, if a bit pricey (or is that everywhere these days?)
I mostly wrote this review to alert customers to fees. The restaurant charges a 20% mandatory gratuity for parties of 6 or more, rather than the 18% I'm used to seeing. Our waitress was worth every bit. Dropped a bit extra to register my appreciation, but sometimes those tips can grate the nerves for some folk.
The fee that might get people mad is the "To Go" fee. If you're ordering to go, know the prices on the menu are higher for you. I've never seen another restaurant do this. Folks trying to economize while avoiding cooking will need to factor this in if they order from Hot Stacks. It does not specify how high a charge is, but I've always lived by the mantra "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." I can urge Hot Stacks not to do this. Are they noticing an uptick in carry out orders and "no shows"? This may be the reason. The "gotcha" is a poke in the eye. Just tacky as hell.
I ate in so I didn't get burned, but this is something that'd get me to avoid ordering carry out there. Maybe that's their goal? Is $15 not enough to pay for eggs? You have to have $17? $20? $22? to break even? Something in the business...
Read moreI would have loved this place if it wasn't for the server. The server constantly commented on how much I was ordering/eating to the point it ruined my whole meal. As someone who has struggled with an eating disorder my whole life, it was very disappointing to have someone comment on the amount I was eating and a tad bit sexist too. No one should be forced to order something else because "there's no way you can eat all that". You have no idea how hungry someone is or what their life is like. Comments on the amount of food someone is eating or not eating is toxic. I wish I could have just ordered what I wanted to instead of being judged so harshly. I left hungry. The meals do not come with sides. I just wanted two meats and a side...I guess that means I am an over-eater. And if you must know, I was ordering a "big" meal because we were traveling home and there's not many options for dairy free for fast food. I needed my meal to last most of the day. Another con is the price. Our meal was $40 for two people. We got coffee to drink, a meal with one pancake, scrambled eggs, grits, sausage & bacon. And a scramble bowl. I did like the food and there were plently of options for people who have various allergies. It was nice to be able to have dairy-free options. I liked the atmosphere and...
Read moreFood was great! But customer service sucks! I believed we were racial profiled. No smiles from our waitress, But the other couple beside us received SEVERAL SMILES! They charge for every single thing! My wife got pancakes the had a choice of strawberries, They charged her 87 cents plus tax for one strawberry! My family is quite wealthy, We were just profiled and that didn’t sit well with me!!!! Never coming back
Hello Peter , This is Kelvin from the review. We had several extra charges for strawberries that supposed to come on a pancake, and my wife got charged for whipped cream as well on her pancakes! The money is not a big deal it’s just some things didn’t sit we’ll with me or my family! I’m actually in the road right now but I will find my receipt and I’m not sure if it has the server name, But my real problem is us being racial profiled! We were from the jump with our server! And my family is quite wealthy. For instance: She asked me were we ok and then as I’m getting ready to speak a Caucasian couple next to us raised their hand & she ignored everything I started to say and handled the best guess. Great restaurant Peter Awesome Food! But (Ekaterina) did a poor job and really didn’t show us the same respect and customer service she did other people!
