I have never written a poor review of a business before, but I think anyone considering this business for a private event should be warned: DO NOT CONSIDER DOING BUSINESS WITH JACK'S!
We have an event every year which we have traditionally used another restaurant for catering. I reached out to Jack's to get a quote on catering (pickup). I thought it would be fun to get hotdogs for our Oktoberfest party. Again, inquired about pickup. After not getting a response I reached out again and I was told that I should book the food truck ASAP as spots go fast. I was never told at this point there was an upcharge or different menu. The food truck sounded fun, although again it was not initially what I was interested in. So I booked, and sent a follow up email saying I would need more information on cost, etc.
Again, very little communication. Honestly, this is probably when I should have backed out. I called the restaurant about a week and a half before the party to follow up. Whoever answered the phone was absolutely beyond rude and told me that "no one had any idea what I was talking about" regarding a private event and literally hung up on me. Again, I fault myself for not pulling out at this point but with only ten days to go prior to the event, and as a business owner myself, I blamed this on an untrained, probably young employee. After I reached out about this phone call and how horrible it was, I was immediately contacted, assured that the food truck would be there. I asked if the menu was the same as online and pricing was the same and I was told it was "pretty similar" but that the most expensive thing on the food truck was about nine dollars per person. Okay, I find it very odd that when you can book the food truck online that you can't actually see a menu. It's not that hard to update a website. I explained that we would be paying for the whole thing so we needed to know exact pricing and get a contract. I sent a follow up email regarding pricing/contract never heard back. Again...this is my fault. Time leading up to the party is very busy as we typically have about 100 people.
Party day comes, food truck shows up. The positives- people thought the food truck was the coolest thing, and the food was good. The people working the truck were fine. I asked at the beginning of the party to track which types of meals were ordered and we would pay at the end. So, they tracked what meals were ordered. I saw the tracking paper at the end (of which half of the hotdogs, plain, were half of the total)...and then I was charged $9 per meal regardless of what the individual meal pricing was (THAT WAS POSTED ON THE FRONT OF THE FOOD TRUCK). In the middle of the party I wasn't going to make a fuss but I called the following Tuesday to express my dissatisfaction. Although I felt "heard" during the phone call, I haven't gotten one follow up. I gave it a week before posting this review.
Basically, if you are hosting a private event, you will pay more than if you bring the food truck to the neighborhood. They will not tell you the pricing in advance.
Honestly, it's not 100% the cost of the food (although it was probably 40% more than my initial estimates based on what their online posted menu was), it's really about the shady business practices and overcharging. I had two friends ask if I had a good experience and whether they should hire and I vehemently answered NO!
It's a bummer, we are friends with the original owner Jack who is awesome. I can't imagine this happening under his watch.
Do not recommend. The reason it's not a one star review is because the truck showed up, the food was good, and the people working the truck were nice. But, I would never ever recommend...

This place is great. It has a really cool atmosphere and a lot of neat relics that kinda make you feel like you’re in a 50’s style diner. Food is really good and fairly reasonable - the hot dogs kind of reminded me of The Varsity in Atlanta, GA, but much bigger and with fresher toppings. The fries are really outstanding! Hard to go wrong with fresh cut fries. I’m not sure if they had salt on them, which normally would be a dealbreaker, but honestly they were great so I can’t complain - maybe I just didn’t see the salt!
Here are my only two teeny tiny complaints:
Either way great restaurant. Plus they have beer! (And root...
Read moreWe drove by and thought it looked too cool not to stop in and check it out. When we got there the AC was broke and the temps outside last weekend were very high. Honestly, it seemed unsafe to have their workers in there working as hot as it was. We decided to just grab food to go. We ordered 4 milkshakes(2 Reese), 2 chicken tender meals, a basket of fries and 2 hot dogs. Not specialty dogs, one with ketchup mustard and pickles and one with chili and mustard. They were good quality , the tenders seemed just frozen not homemade and very small, but our total was $95. It seemed really high for a little hot dog joint. We couldn’t enjoy all the fun things inside because of the crazy heat. After we ordered and paid for milkshakes she told us they were out of Reese. Then we got back to the hotel and they had left out all dipping sauces we asked for. For what we paid, it was disappointing. We all agreed that Cookout food was comparable and shakes were better. I also don’t like milkshakes in plastic cups especially in high heat because in minutes you just have milk. Anyways, super cool concept just not great execution and $20+ a person for a hot dog or tenders and a milkshake is kind of crazy. We would try it again when the AC is working and I’d make sure to check the receipt next time. It still doesn’t seem like we were charged correctly but I walked outside to get out of the heat and my husband paid. The...
