After spending basically $100 on sushi, a bento box and a rice bowl, not to mention the added money that I had to pay for each individual yum yum sauce that was placed in my bag, I am pretty sure that my whole family has either food poisoning or there was something really wrong with the food because we all now have stomach aches/stomach issues and nausea.
This is our 5th visit to Konnichiwa and after we noticed that the food quality in their sushi wasn't the best the last time we ordered from there, plus after being charged for things that weren't being put in the bags such as sauces that we had to pay for and even a sushi roll, we took a break from visiting their restaurant. Last time, we noticed that some of the ingredients such as the crawfish that they add to their sushi rolls was not fresh at all. The way that we know this is because it was water logged and whenever you would bite into it, it would gush water and that clearly comes from being previously frozen and then thawed, not to mention it had a slight fishy smell to it. We also noticed that everything that they say has "crab" in it, clearly has imitation crab instead of real crab meat. In saying this, people are paying "crab" prices for what is actually processed fish parts squished together. Don't get me wrong, I know that imitation crab is used a lot in sushi restaurants...but those prices are ridiculous for what you are actually getting. Also, some of the sushi rolls were not being created the way that they were listed on the menu. Some were not topped with anything at all when they were suppose to be topped with seafood or sauces and then others had sauces and shredded "crab" globbed on top of them, forming a glue like consistency in the boxes.
Today we decided to give the restaurant a try again, hoping that maybe the issues with the food were just a fluke last time. After dropping way too much money on their food, I brought the bags home to happily find everything I ordered in the bag, expensive sauces included. My daughter enjoyed her shrimp bento box, even though her soup container wasn't even halfway filled and the food was just slopped into the box. We enjoyed our sushi until we got to the angry crawfish roll. My wife opened the box and without thinking, put a piece of crawfish in her mouth. She said that it was water logged, warm and tasted fishy and held another piece up for me to smell and the smell that radiated off of it was terrible! There were two rolls in the box and we had to throw both of them away because we couldn't trust that the seafood was any good. Whenever we tried to move on to our last roll that was in a separate box, we had to toss it in the trash too because the smell from the crawfish upset my stomach and my wife immediately felt nauseous after eating that tiny piece of crawfish.
So here we are at 9pm and everyone has a stomach ache/digestive issues and I can't see any of us going to sleep anytime soon. Let's hope that we all feel better in...
Read moreAfter reading the previous reviews, I was excited to try this restaurant out. I didn’t have super high expectations, but the disappointment surprised me the most. The prices are relatively similar to most sit down sushi/bento restaurants in our area. There was nobody at the door to seat us. Once we sat ourselves, the waitress took about 10 minutes to address us. Granted, there was only 1 server- but everybody else (2 other tables of 2 people each) already had their food. Our sweet tea came room temperature, and we had to ask for an extra cup of ice. Okay, cool- no big deal. The sushi is what really disappointed us. Imagine grocery store (specifically bi-Lo or ingles) sushi, and bring it down a couple of notches. The rolls were about 97 percent less than perfect rice and we had to look for the fish. We ordered 3 rolls, and they were all like this. We also ordered bento boxes and edamame. Both were less than average. The server WAS very nice, just not the best with customer service. I wasn’t expecting top of the line, but I also was not expecting grocery store quality food. Another couple that came after us left because they waited too long. A second that came in after us also had something go wrong with their order. They left looking...
Read moreI have been coming to this restaurant since before covid. It was heartbreaking to see their business take a hit at the time, but with the amazing staff, delicious food, and gorgeous atmosphere, it’s no wonder they bounced back in no time. My partner and I consistently compare other restaurants to Konnichiwa and use it as our golden standard. “this roll has way more rice and veggie than the ones in Konnichiwa, they’re skimping out on the protein” or “i really like how konnichiwa does their Kani pockets, they’re just better.” are both things i’ve said on numerous occasions. This is my go to date night spot because there is something for everyone, and nobody will leave disappointed at all. I could rave for hours and hours about their food, but what really sets this place apart from other restaurants, and other Konnichiwa chain restaurants, is the staff. There are two men working here who have been there for years, and they are so inviting, welcoming, and kind. I would happily give these gentlemen my entire paycheck if feasible, they make the experience that much better. I truly just want everyone to know how good of a spot...
