My family have been regulars for over 20 years now, since it was a Maggie Moo's. We still frequented as long as Binta was there. We were sad to see it close a few years ago and thrilled that it reopened. However, we've had some newly diagnosed food sensitivities among different family members that has resulted in much less frequent visits the past three years... ANYWAY, all of that to say that you have to understand that my review comes with over 20 years of love for this place, the flavors they offer, and the nostalgia of so many memories (birthdays, bachelorette parties, both my daughters' first ice cream experiences, and more)... Change is hard, and after it was a certain way for over a decade, and then has changed a lot, several times, in a short period of time, I'm hesitant to get too attached, and it's difficult to know what to expect or establish what we'd continue to visit here for. I'm sad to say that our most recent re-visit did not leave us with any impressions that we'd particularly want to return.
The standard flavors are still great! They still offer my favorite ever cotton candy ice cream! My husband loves the Mummy Crunch, although we both think it's pretty hilarious that this flavor hasn't been rebranded with a more perennial title (it was first introduced as a Halloween-themed flavor many years ago).
From looking at the most recent reviews at the time I'm writing this, it seems that there has been new ownership again for about four months. So this review is mostly about how things are being run now.
Then again, Fort Mill is one of the 20 fastest-growing cities in the US, so maybe the customers they are mostly attracting are new to the area and don't know how it used to be, and even culturally, are not familiar with or don't have expectations for the "mix-in/cold slab" type of ice cream.
If I had just walked into this place in a totally different location with a totally different name, equipment, and layout, minus the SUPER annoying menu sign switching and flashing, I could probably walk in with an open mind, no expectations, and really enjoy a new ice cream adventure. Instead, I walked away feeling disappointment and grief, realizing Maggie/Scoop-and-Swirl is now really and truly dead, gone, and buried, with a weird ghost imposter with the same name in its place. RIP, Maggie...
Read moreMy wife and I absolutely LOVE Scoop and Swirl! We have been loyal customers for years, so when we learned that Dilip and Binta were closing shop to retire we were devastated! After several weeks of Scoop and Swirl withdrawal (an actual medical condition in my opinion) that could not be relieved, we noticed an “Open” sign in the window! To say we were thrilled that our beloved Scoop and Swirl was open again is an understatement! The new owners, Ray and Shannon, are amazing people. They are passionate about making amazing ice cream, and I am passionate about eating it! I know we will fall in love with them just as we did with Dilip and Binta! Do yourself a favor, skip the lines at the other places, and experience what ice cream is meant to taste like! Fort Mills best Ice Cream...
Read moreI came here before when it was Maggie Moo's and boy was this an upgrade.
Their flavor selection is incredible. As someone who doesn't like chocolate, I really appreciate their variety of non-chocolate flavors. They also have some pretty unique flavors. I sampled all of their seasonal flavors which were delicious.
I ended up going with the banana and peanut butter instead. You can really tell that they use all local fresh ingredients. The topping selection is also pretty big.
The person working there was incredibly friendly and helpful. Seeing as I have only found two other good ice cream places in Charlotte (Two Scoops and Golden Cow) and this one is way closer to where I live, this will be my new go to ice cream place.
I highly recommend coming here for some...
