Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar — Restaurant in South Carolina

To say this place is AWESOME would be an understatement! We went on a Saturday afternoon and the place was PACKED! I was dressed up a bit, my husband, not so much ... haha!! .. he'd been grubbing about in the morning and looked a mess. HEY! NO PROBLEM! The atmosphere was casual and no one blinked an eye. We bellied up to the bar which reminded me of our vacations @ the beach to be greeted by Jeffrey. This guy was phenominal! He was single handedly manning a totally packed bar, welcoming all, serving food and making everyone feel special! I started out with blackened scallops that were incredible. My husband dooesn't even like scallops but took a bite of one of mine and was WOWED! He had the ahi tuna that was also done well ... these in a place more known for the oysters, clams, crab legs, etc. So, of course, onto the main courses! I had a time making up my mind and could have spent a fortune ordering a little bit of everything when Jeffrey stepped up and kindly guided me to the sampler platter! OMG!!! Yummy crab legs, steamed mussels that were buttery delicious and clams that reminded me of the clam bakes I grew up with on the beaches of Florida!! A super nice couple sat down beside us and the party was ON! Tye (sp? sorry Tye, I'm not great with names) and his wife were friendly and just down right FUN! Jeffery was joined behind the bar behind another incredible mixologist (I'm SO sorry but I missed his name - you'll know him by his unique blonde dreads and extensive knowledge of everything intoxicating!! :-) ) The cocktails we shared with our new friends were simply delicious. I ESPECIALLY LOVED the Bloody Marys!!! These guys have their own secret Bloody Mary mix that will knock your socks off!! Sure ... Blue Bay and I asked for a little more "heat" in one and detected horseradish but the base blend was ... well, just delicious!!! We arrived around 2:00 p.m. and, to my surprise, found that it was after 5:00 p.m. by the time we left. With our new friends, superb food, fantastic staff, welcoming atmosphere and a couple yummy cocktails, time just went by in a flash!! It was like a mini vacation @ the beach!!!! ...

Decided to try this place out today, they were not super busy and got seated right away. Ordered the seafood trio to start with and was pleasantly surprised. That’s about the only good thing I can say about this visit. We ordered three steamer combos, crab legs, shrimp, etc......one with extra shrimp, one with oysters and one with clams. First two plates come out, everything looks great, then we waited. It took another 10 minutes before we got the remaining plate (the one with just crab legs and shrimp). After being told 4 times that “they are playing it right now” and watching 9 other tables be served their “shrimp”, the last plate finally arrived. Now, being an avid seafood eater, I fully expected that we were waiting on the crab legs. Nope. Apparently we were waiting on the shrimp to be boiled, which was delivered to multiple tables that were sat and ordered after we did. We ended up with some fresh boiled shrimp, but cold crab legs on a steamer plate. So needless to say, whereas the food ultimately turned out to be pretty good. The experience overall was lack luster and the staff didn’t seem to care. Not a single apology from the wait staff, the kitchen employee that delivered the plate or the manager that was on shift. It was great watching my wife eat her Mother’s Day lunch and then have her sit around watching me eat because they couldn’t figure out how to bring the entire order out together for such a simple plate. We won’t be back here no matter how good...

This is the second time my boyfriend and I have visited the Shuckin Shack. I’m pregnant and I’m always craving crab legs so we decided to go for lunch today. The waitress told us she was going to put in the order for our appetizer and “be right back”. Instead, she never came back and another waiter came with our appetizer. 5 minutes after we got our appetizer, our waitress finally came back and got our order. A woman at a table nearby had her birthday and had asked for a shot of liquor. Her waitor came back with two, handed her one, looked to make sure no other employees were watching, and then took one of the shots. We waited almost 45 minutes for our food and sour waitress never came to check on us with the appetizer or drink refills. 2 tables who came in 15 minutes after us had already gotten their food. My boyfriend ended up walking over to her to tell her that we had been waiting almost 45 minutes. She was associating with another worker and she told him it would be right out but he could clearly see his food sitting right in front of her. She then brought it out and started blaming the kitchen employees saying, “I don’t know what’s going on with them. I’ve cussed them out plenty of times today. They are trippin’ today”. My boyfriend then took a bite of his taco and it was cold. This is definitely not the experience we had the first time. Our first experience was a lot better than today’s. Not sure if we will be back...
